The young Alpine driver would line up P13 on the starting grid and begin a methodic drive up the order after the lights out. A two-stop pit strategy would allow Colapinto to penetrate the Top 10 on lap 38. On lap 40 a virtual safety car would be deployed for the Fernando Alonso retirement. Stewards would rule after the race that Colapinto did not slow enough entering the yellow flag zone and would assess a 10-second penalty. He would cross the finish line P8 but would be demoted to P10 due to the penalty.
