The No. 12 Team Penske Chevrolet of Malukas was strong and he'd battle at the front most of the race as well as lead a number of laps. When the race evolved into a fuel strategy battle, Malukas would be on the backfoot. However, a couple late cautions would wipe out the fuel save and it would be a battle to the finish. The young driver would take the lead on the final lap but couldn't not hold off the rally to the finish line by Felix Rosenqvist. Malukas would lose the closest Indy 500 in history by just 0.0233-seconds.
