William Eklund

William Eklund

23-Year-Old Left WingLW
San Jose Sharks
2025 Fantasy Outlook
The 2024-2025 campaign was Eklund’s best, setting a new career high with 58 points in 77 games. Perhaps most impressive was the fact that he was only a minus-7 player on a team that had the worst goal differential in the league. Even at just 22 years old, you can write him in pen in the Sharks' top-six and a power-play spot. However, there are some question marks with Eklund – for instance, how his recovery from a scary offseason wrist injury that required surgery progresses. The Sharks' level of commitment to another rebuilding year will be a determining factor in Eklund’s production. If the youngster has linemates to play with and stays healthy – he’s missed only seven games in his two full NHL seasons – there’s no reason that the 2021 seventh-overall pick can’t continue to grow and evolve into one of the NHL’s superstar wingers. Bags three points in finale

April 16, 2026
Eklund tallied a goal, notched two assists and placed three shots on net in Thursday's 6-1 win over the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Eklund capped off his 2025-26 campaign with a strong outing, as he provided two primary assists before adding the Sharks' fifth goal of the game right before time expired in the second period. The 23-year-old winger wrapped up the regular season with 15 goals, 38 assists, 176 shots on net, 72 hits and 51 blocked shots across 78 games. Despite ending the year with five less points than he compiled in 77 games a season ago, he showcased growth as an all-around player with new career highs in shots on goal, hits and blocked shots. Eklund holds solid upside playing the Sharks' top six and is worthy of a draft pick in most standard fantasy formats next season.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
The Sharks knew from the start of the 2023-24 campaign that they weren't going to make the playoffs, so they kept an eye on the future, giving the young Eklund key minutes. The 21-year-old had 16 goals and 45 points across 80 contests. While playing for San Jose did result in him getting a lot of ice time, it also meant that the quality of his linemates wasn't great. Perhaps because of that, Eklund never got to settle in with anyone in particular, instead being thrown onto the ice with a rotating group of forwards. Those are issues that might be resolved this year with Logan Couture likely to be healthy and top prospect Macklin Celebrini set to make his NHL debut, leaving Eklund with far better players to work with. That assignment, combined with his own growth should lead to Eklund finishing with 50-60 points in 2024-25.
Playing the entirety of last season at age 20, Eklund spent the majority of the year in the AHL, where he was excellent (17 goals, 41 points in 54 games). He added two goals and a helper in three games with the Sharks. The former No. 7 overall pick back in 2021, Eklund remains the most valuable long-term asset in the San Jose system outside of (2023 No. 4 overall pick) Will Smith. Eklund seems certain to grab a full-time gig for the upcoming season, making him a deep-league option in re-draft formats and a high-end asset in keeper/dynasty leagues.

Could go on injured reserve
LWSan Jose Sharks
November 7, 2025
Eklund, who is out of action with a lower-body injury, could go on injured reserve Friday, per Max Miller of NHL.com.
ANALYSIS
The Sharks will activate Ryan Reaves on Friday and need to make a move. Should Eklund go on injured reserve, he could miss only one game, as the move will likely be retroactive to Nov. 1, when he was injured. Eklund has five goals and six assists in 12 games this season.
