Selected seventh overall in 2021, Eklund has become a reliable but not exceptional top-six forward. He had 15 goals and 38 assists in 78 outings in 2025-26, making it his third straight campaign with 15-17 goals and 45-58 points. He'll turn 24 on Oct. 12, so he's young enough that there still might be another level to his game -- something the Senators will be banking on after acquiring him from the Sharks. His shot volume has steadily risen in each of his first three full NHL seasons to 176 last year. The increased shot total didn't lead to a jump in goals because he had a career-worst 8.5 shooting percentage last year, but if he keeps firing the puck aggressively, the goals should come. Reaching the 50-point mark again seems like a safe bet, and you should take him ahead of other forwards in that range because he has enough upside to hit 60-70 points if everything clicks. The 2024-2025 campaign was Eklund’s best, setting a new career high with 58 points in 77 games. Perhaps most impressive was the fact that he was only a minus-7 player on a team that had the worst goal differential in the league. Even at just 22 years old, you can write him in pen in the Sharks' top-six and a power-play spot. However, there are some question marks with Eklund – for instance, how his recovery from a scary offseason wrist injury that required surgery progresses. The Sharks' level of commitment to another rebuilding year will be a determining factor in Eklund’s production. If the youngster has linemates to play with and stays healthy – he’s missed only seven games in his two full NHL seasons – there’s no reason that the 2021 seventh-overall pick can’t continue to grow and evolve into one of the NHL’s superstar wingers.
