Will Smith

19-Year-Old CenterC
2024 Fantasy Outlook
While much of the attention will be on Macklin Celebrini, Smith also figures to be a key rookie for the Sharks in 2024-25. Smith's playmaking is his best trait after he racked up 25 goals and 46 assists in 41 appearances for Boston College as a freshman last season. The 19-year-old was selected fourth overall in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft, so Smith has plenty of pedigree as a prospect. Look for Smith to push for 40-plus points, though his plus-minus is likely to be poor as the Sharks work through at least one more year of a deep rebuild. Read Past Outlooks

Tallies first two goals
CSan Jose Sharks
October 31, 2024
Smith scored twice on three shots, including one power-play goal, in Thursday's 3-2 win over the Blackhawks.
ANALYSIS
Smith hadn't logged a point in his first eight NHL appearances. The 19-year-old center changed that, opening the scoring in the first period and then adding a power-play game-winner midway through the second. He's added 14 shots on net, six PIM and a minus-3 rating over nine contests. Smith has sat out three times so far, including one game in each of the Sharks' first two back-to-back sets. He will likely continue to have his minutes managed as he adjusts from the NCAA schedule to a full-length NHL campaign, so don't be surprised to see him be a healthy scratch with some regularity.

Close to entry-level deal?
CSan Jose Sharks
May 28, 2024
Smith could sign a three year, entry-level contract with San Jose as soon as Tuesday, per David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period.
ANALYSIS
Smith logged 25 goals and 71 points in 41 games for Boston College during his freshman season in 2023-24. The fourth overall pick also participated in the World Championship with Team USA, failing to earn a point in five games. He will likely be able to crack San Jose's roster out of training camp in the fall.
