2025 Fantasy Outlook
Vanecek’s stock has fallen hard in recent years. He was a great starter for the Devils in 2022-23, posting a 33-11-4 record, 2.45 GAA and .911 save percentage in 52 regular-season outings. However, he floundered in 2023-24, which ultimately cost him that starter gig, and he failed to recover in 2024-25, finishing the regular season with a 5-14-4 record, 3.62 GAA and .884 save percentage in 25 outings between San Jose and Florida. Now with Utah, Vanecek finds himself firmly behind starter Karel Vejmelka. The 29-year-old Vanecek’s role as the understudy isn’t even secure, depending on the availability of Connor Ingram, who entered the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program in March. A comeback for Vanecek isn’t completely impossible, but his rough play over the past two seasons, coupled with the unfavorable circumstances in Utah, make that rebound unlikely. Read Past Outlooks

Vanecek will get his first start since Dec. 29. The 30-year-old is currently mired in a terrible stretch, as he is 0-8-1 with an .867 save percentage and a 3.24 GAA over his last nine appearances. Vanecek will look to earn his first victory since Oct. 26 against a Columbus squad that is on the second half of a back-to-back and has lost four consecutive games (0-3-1). He also has a tremendous track record against the Blue Jackets, going 7-0-0 with a 1.55 GAA and a .950 save percentage across seven career outings against them.

Before getting hurt, Vanacek posted a 17-9-3 record while struggling with a 3.18 GAA and an .890 save percentage in 32 appearances. He was excellent in 2022-23, earning a mark of 33-11-4 with a 2.45 GAA and a .911 save percentage. Even if he's healthy, Vanacek's fantasy value will be slim after the team traded for Yaroslav Askarov in August.
