Secures two-year extension
DeAngelo agreed to terms on a two-year, $9 million contract extension with the Islanders on Friday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
ANALYSIS
DeAngelo is coming off a bit of a bounce-back campaign in 2025-26, reaching the 35-point threshold for the first time since 2022-23, when he was with Philadelphia. The 30-year-old blueliner has struggled to produce with the man advantage, failing to even get 10 power-play points in any of the last three seasons. If DeAngelo can improve that aspect of his game, he should be capable of putting up 40-plus points.

After spending part of 2024-25 in the KHL, DeAngelo came back to North America and signed with the Islanders in January. New York chose to keep the 2014 first-round selection around by inking him to another one-year deal over the summer after he registered four goals and 19 points across 35 outings. The departure of Noah Dobson opens the door for DeAngelo to quarterback the No. 1 power-play unit in 2025-26, which creates an opportunity for the 29-year-old to be an intriguing target in formats that prioritize scoring. The shifty-skating blueliner has two 50-plus point seasons under his belt during his nine-year NHL career, so he’s certainly a viable candidate to get back to the 40-point mark if he maintains a role with the man advantage.
