ANALYSIS
Cossa was dealt from Detroit to Utah during Friday's draft in exchange for the 2026 No. 23 overall pick. The 23-year-old netminder was a first-round selection in 2021, so he should have every opportunity to be the backup to Karel Vejmelka for at least the next two seasons. However, Cossa has just one game of NHL experience, so he will likely have to earn that role during training camp in September.

The Red Wings' crease isn't as crowded as it has been in recent years, but that doesn't mean Cossa will be a full-time NHL option in 2025-26. He should still get a chance at some point this season, as the combination of John Gibson and Cam Talbot offers plenty of concern for injuries. Cossa went 21-15-5 with a 2.45 GAA and a .911 save percentage over 41 regular-season games with AHL Grand Rapids last season, and he also won his NHL debut, which came in December in a relief appearance. Fantasy managers may want to stash Cossa -- he could be quick to prove himself if he gets an extended look with the big club.

That said, Cossa would benefit from getting a backup workload for a year or two if he is moved, though the Red Wings may still want to keep him for that purpose in 2026-27.
