2025 Fantasy Outlook
The Red Wings' crease isn't as crowded as it has been in recent years, but that doesn't mean Cossa will be a full-time NHL option in 2025-26. He should still get a chance at some point this season, as the combination of John Gibson and Cam Talbot offers plenty of concern for injuries. Cossa went 21-15-5 with a 2.45 GAA and a .911 save percentage over 41 regular-season games with AHL Grand Rapids last season, and he also won his NHL debut, which came in December in a relief appearance. Cossa was recalled Wednesday when John Gibson (upper body) was unable to play or back up Cam Talbot. It appears that Gibson should be good to go Friday against Florida, eliminating the need for Cossa. Cossa is 24-4-3 with a 1.99 GAA and a .927 save percentage across 31 AHL games this season, and his wins and GAA trail only Michael DiPietro among AHL goaltenders in 2025-26.

Cossa had a great AHL campaign in 2025-26 with a 26-8-4 record, a 2.33 GAA and a .915 save percentage over 39 regular-season games, but he lost the starting job by the start of the postseason. The Mammoth don't exactly make sense as a fit on paper with a workhorse starter in Karel Vejmelka. That said, Cossa would benefit from getting a backup workload for a year or two if he is moved, though the Red Wings may still want to keep him for that purpose in 2026-27.
