Honzek debuted in the NHL last season for a five-game sample size at the start of the year before spending the rest of it with AHL Calgary. That didn’t go quite the way he had hoped, picking up just eight goals and 21 points in 54 games. The 16th overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, the talent is certainly there, and he brings an enviable 6-foot-4 frame to the table. However, the production at the professional level has yet to match it, and the 20-year-old is likely to start the season in the AHL again as a result of that. 2024 Fantasy Outlook
Honzek was limited by injury in 2023-24, but he was great when healthy, supplying 10 goals and 31 points in 33 regular-season appearances with WHL Vancouver. Selected by Calgary with the No. 16 overall pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, the 19-year-old has tremendous two-way potential and has an opportunity to make an immediate impact with the Flames this campaign. After a fantastic preseason, Honzek not only made the Opening Night roster but has potentially earned a spot on the top six. The Slovakia native is likely to have growing pains at the NHL level, but under ideal circumstances, he might be able to get to the 40-point mark this year. Just keep in mind that it's equally possible he'll prove to be not quite ready for the big league and ultimately spend big chunks of the season in the AHL, which he's eligible to be assigned to this season.
