It seems Helenius' demotion to the minors Sunday was a paper transaction with the forward now officially back on the NHL roster. Looking ahead to Wednesday's matchup with the Sabres, it will likely come down to Helenius or Akil Thomas for the last spot on the fourth line. Helenius is expected to join AHL Ontario after his season in Finland's Liiga ends, John Hoven of SiriusXM NHL Network Radio reports.

ANALYSIS
Helenius hasn't shown much with JYP this year, logging nine points, 76 PIM and a minus-7 rating through 48 appearances. Despite the lackluster scoring numbers, the 2021 second-round pick is expected to get his first taste of North American hockey this spring. He'll need to get acclimated to the AHL, so the 19-year-old is unlikely to get into the NHL next year unless he has a hot start.
