2025 Fantasy Outlook
With Pittsburgh struggling defensively, Shea got an opportunity to grow into a larger role in 2024-25. He was largely overmatched early in the season, picking up just two assists with a minus-7 rating over 22 appearances through the end of January. He finished the year stronger, earning three points in his last 17 outings while adding a viable minus-2 rating. There's no guarantee the 28-year-old will be a regular in 2025-26, especially if a prospect like Owen Pickering steps up. Shea likely won't contribute enough in any category to make a big impact in fantasy. Read Past Outlooks
Slated to play against Colorado
Shea (upper body) is expected to be available for Tuesday's home game versus the Avalanche, Josh Yohe of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Yohe noted that Shea has a significant gash above his upper lip and will play with a full cage Tuesday. The 29-year-old defenseman sat out Sunday's 5-1 loss to Carolina due to his injury. Ryan Graves is set to serve as a healthy scratch as a result of Shea's expected return to the lineup against Colorado.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Heading into training camp, Shea was likely viewed as a long shot to make the Penguins; Opening Night roster, especially with the emergence of Harrison Brunicke. Instead, the 27-year-old Shea will be with the team when it kicks off the season against the Rangers on Oct. 9. Even with a spot on the roster, Shea could struggle for regular minutes, likely serving as the seventh defenseman. Even if he does play, he probably shouldn't be expected to offer much in terms of fantasy value given his limited offensive upside.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could receive extension
Shea might be a player the Penguins try to sign to a contract extension before July 1, Josh Yohe of The Athletic reports Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Shea may not be the flashiest defenseman on the roster, but the 28-year-old has turned into a reliable third-pairing player while chipping in two goals and 14 assists in 48 games this year. Perhaps more importantly, Shea is averaging 2:08 of ice time with the penalty kill, a role that could increase while Erik Karlsson is sidelined due to a lower-body injury.
