2025 Fantasy Outlook
Donato doubled his previous career high in points, earning 31 goals and 62 points in 2024-25 despite playing for the rebuilding Blackhawks. His previous high mark was 31 points in 2021-22 with the Kraken. Donato presents an interesting case, but fantasy managers should approach with caution, as he will be back with Chicago after signing a four-year deal. Donato's 17.0 shooting percentage was easily a career-best mark, so expect more of a 20-25 goal season rather than a repeat. He had some chemistry with Connor Bedard as well, but the Blackhawks will likely continue to mix their lines, which could leave Donato in the middle six more often at even strength. Donato opened the scoring for the Blackhawks with a wrister at the 9:01 mark of the first period, but the team couldn't hold on to the lead and gave up three unanswered goals that changed the flow of the game completely. Donato has 15 goals on the season, and this tally allowed him to snap a three-game pointless skid. However, with only four points in 19 games since the beginning of March, he's far from being a reliable option in most fantasy formats.

Donato was a decent source of depth offense from a bottom-six role for the Blackhawks in 2023-24, finishing the campaign with 12 goals, 30 points, 149 shots on net and 105 hits while averaging 14:00 of ice time through 78 regular-season contests. The 28-year-old forward has finished right around the 30-point mark with double-digit goals in each of the last three seasons, making him nothing more than an injury-replacement option in most fantasy formats heading into 2024-25. With the Blackhawks' additions during the offseason, Donato is unlikely to see an increased role and could even end up being an occasional healthy scratch.
