2025 Fantasy Outlook
Although Maatta began 2024-25 by averaging just 15:52 of ice time across seven outings with Detroit, he received a much-needed change of scenery when he was dealt to Utah on Oct. 29. After the trade, he jumped to an average of 19:55 with Utah, which led to him finishing the campaign with his highest ice time per game since 2015-16. The 30-year-old recorded two goals, 18 points, 16 PIM, 73 shots, 25 hits and 124 blocks across 77 appearances between Utah and Detroit last year. Although his situation seems more favorable since joining Utah, he doesn’t have a power-play role, and 20 points is roughly the most you can hope for out of him offensively. Maatta isn’t a stat sheet stuffer in other categories, limiting the value he has in fantasy formats. Read Past Outlooks
Nabs assist in Calgary debut
Maatta notched an assist and blocked five shots in Saturday's 5-4 win over the Hurricanes.
ANALYSIS
Maatta started the game on the third pairing but ended up with 23:54 of ice time after Zach Whitecloud's (upper body) exit. The 31-year-old Maatta should get a better chance to play regularly for the Flames after being a regular scratch for the Mammoth. He's produced just two helpers with 11 shots on net, 22 blocked shots and a minus-6 rating over 23 outings this season.

Maatta had a nice showing in his first season in Detroit despite serving in a depth role for the club. He led the team with a plus-14 rating, an especially impressive mark when you take into account his 16:03 average ice time per game was by far the lowest mark of his 11-year NHL career. Maatta's offensive numbers (four goals, 18 points in 72 games) won't blow anyone away, and he's not a fantasy asset in any format, but the Finn should once again serve as reliable depth for the Red Wings before hitting unrestricted free agency in the summer of 2025.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Might rejoin lineup Saturday
Maatta, who was a healthy scratch for Thursday's 4-3 season-opening loss to the Devils, might make his season debut Saturday against the visiting Lightning, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde reportedly has given thought to starting seven defensemen and 11 forwards as a direct response to forward Robby Fabbri's undisclosed injury, which has left him doubtful for the upcoming contest. However, if the Wings go with six blueliners, it could result in Maatta swapping back in, presumably in place of Justin Holl. Last season, Maata had no trouble getting settled into his new digs, as he recorded six goals, 23 assists, 78 hits and 128 blocked shots as a first-year Red Wing.
