Kapanen had a busy 2024-25 regular season, recording 15 goals and 35 points in 36 appearances with Timra of the Swedish Hockey League as well as two assists, 16 shots, one hit and eight blocks across 18 appearances with Montreal. He added another assist in three playoff outings with the Canadiens and then supplied three goals and six points across 11 postseason outings with AHL Laval. Taken with the No. 64 overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, the 22-year-old will compete for a bottom-six spot on Montreal’s Opening Night roster. He might fall short of that goal and instead begin the campaign in the minors, but even if that happens, it wouldn’t be surprising to see Kapanen spend some time at the top level this season.
