Nikolai Kovalenko

25-Year-Old Right WingRW
2024 Fantasy Outlook
After finding success in the KHL, including the 2023-24 campaign in which he scored 11 goals and 35 points in 42 regular-season games with Nizhny Novgorod Torpedo, Kovalenko joined the Avalanche organization, logging two goals and four points across six AHL games between the regular season and playoffs last year. Kovalenko will be in the fight for a middle-six spot with the Avalanche during training camp, and given the success he's had overseas coupled with the absence of Valeri Nichushkin (suspension) until mid-November, it's worth keeping a close eye on him. The 24-year-old Kovalenko has the potential to record over 40 points under the right circumstances next year but keep in mind that assuming he'll have that level of success is risky, especially because not everyone who does well in the KHL can make the transition to North American hockey. Garners another helper
RWSan Jose Sharks
December 17, 2024
Kovalenko provided an assist and two hits in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Jets.
ANALYSIS
Kovalenko has five assists over his last three games. It's taken him virtually no time at all to settle into a middle-six role since he was traded to the Sharks from the Avalanche. The 25-year-old winger is up to 13 points, 29 shots on net, 42 hits and a minus-5 rating over 32 appearances this season, but it looks like his ceiling is much higher in San Jose, making him an option in deeper fantasy formats for now.

Debuting soon?
RWColorado Avalanche
March 14, 2024
Kovalenko is expected to link up with the Avalanche either on their current road trip or when the team returns home, per Brennan Vogt of The-Rink.com.
ANALYSIS
Kovalenko was solid during his time in the KHL this year, recording 11 goals and 24 assists in 42 games played. The 24-year-old will look to possibly make his NHL debut this weekend or later next week. He could slot into a bottom-six role due to Zach Parise's absence -- Parise is currently dealing with a lower-body injury.
