Daws' current contract becomes a one-way deal in 2025-26, and while that doesn't guarantee him an NHL job, it makes it more expensive for the Devils to keep him at AHL Utica. Daws has 52 games of NHL experience under his belt over the last four years, though he saw just six appearances in 2024-25 after logging 21 games the year before. The Devils could still bring in a goalie to compete with Daws for the backup job, especially since his 3.16 GAA and .893 save percentage in 34 AHL outings was a bit underwhelming. Jacob Markstrom will be the Devils' starter, so don't expect a lot of playing time for Daws even if he's a full-time NHLer this season.
