Signs one-year pact
Shabanov inked a one-year, $1.6 million contract with Minnesota on Thursday.
ANALYSIS
Shabanov played in just 44 regular-season games for the Islanders last season due to injury, recording five goals and 13 assists, including five power-play points. If the 25-year-old winger can stay healthy, he should be capable of pushing for the 40-point threshold, though he may struggle for power-play minutes given the depth of the Minnesota forward group.

2025 Fantasy Outlook
Shabanov is coming over to North America on a one-year, entry-level deal with the Islanders after playing in Russia for several years. There's some potential here, as his offensive output increased in each of his last three years in the KHL. The 24-year-old produced 23 goals, 44 assists and a plus-17 rating over 65 regular-season contests in 2024-25, and he also had 20 points in 21 postseason outings. Those are impressive numbers, and while he is a skilled player, his size (5-foot-8, 156 pounds) is a concern for making the transition to the NHL. The left-shot winger is a name worth monitoring this year, but he'll need to prove he can be an effective player on a smaller ice surface -- he could end up in the AHL if he doesn't impress the Islanders' coaching staff.

ANALYSIS
Shabanov spent last season with the Islanders, where he recorded five goals, 13 assists, 27 hits and 16 blocked shots while averaging 13:41 of ice time. However, the former KHL standout became a free agent this week after the Islanders declined to extend him a qualifying offer, and it appears as though he's quickly found a new home.
