2025 Fantasy Outlook
Somewhat surprisingly, after posting career bests in assists (39), points (40) and power-play points (15), Grzelcyk wasn't able to find any takers on an NHL deal before the start of training camp. Instead, the 31-year-old blueliner will have to prove his worth to the Blackhawks after agreeing to join them on a professional tryout agreement. There are plenty of youngsters vying for roster spots on the blue line in the Windy City, but only Alex Vlasic even managed the 30-point threshold last year. Given his offensive upside, it wouldn't be surprising to see Grzelcyk secure a full NHL contract before Opening Night, a role that could include time with one of the power-play units as well. Out for remainder of season
Grzelcyk (upper body) will miss the remainder of the 2025-26 regular season, according to Ben Pope of the Chicago Sun-Times on Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Grzelcyk hasn't played since March 22 against Nashville because of the injury. He will conclude the campaign with 12 assists, 68 shots on goal, 54 blocked shots and 28 hits across 69 appearances. The 32-year-old blueliner will be eligible for unrestricted free agency in the summer.

A native of nearby Charlestown, Mass, and former captain at Boston University, Grzelcyk was never able to find his way in parts of eight seasons with the Bruins. He posted 20-plus points in back-to-back seasons but saw that number dip to just two goals and 11 points in 63 regular-season games last year. Grzelczyk also hasn't had a power-play point since the 2021-22 campaign. He signed a one-year, $2.75 million contract with the Penguins in free agency, where he should line up on the club's third defensive pair, a gig that produces zero fantasy relevance.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Close to signing
Grzelcyk, who was participating in Chicago's training camp on a PTO, is expected to be signed by the Blackhawks, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports Sunday.
ANALYSIS
Grzelcyk will provide Chicago with a veteran option to help complement its younger blueliners, and the added depth will also allow the Blackhawks to keep an extra defensive prospect in the minors for developmental purposes. It was already a bit surprising that the 31-year-old wasn't signed to a standard contract, considering Grzelcyk's coming off a pretty good campaign in which he recorded 40 points in 82 outings with the Penguins, but he will end up landing that deal with the Blackhawks after all.
