Matias Maccelli

Matias Maccelli

25-Year-Old Left WingLW
New York Islanders
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Maccelli's first season in Toronto saw him have a bounce-back year. The 25-year-old played 71 games and posted 14 goals and 25 assists, adding eight power-play points, a meaningful rebound from his 18-point effort over 55 games in 2024-25. He won't add much outside of offense, limiting his fantasy potential. How Maccelli fits into a new team remains to be seen after the Leafs did not give him a qualifying offer. Expect roughly 15 goals and 45-50 points in 2026-27. Maccelli is a late-round target in standard leagues, though he loses some value in formats that count more non-scoring categories. Maccelli signed a one-year, $2.25 million contract with the Islanders on Wednesday, per Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports.
ANALYSIS
Maccelli became an unrestricted free agent after Toronto declined to present him with a qualifying offer before Monday's deadline. He had 14 goals and 39 points in 71 appearances with the Maple Leafs in 2025-26. Maccelli hasn't managed to recapture the success he enjoyed in the 2023-24 regular season when he finished with 57 points, but he's still just 25 years old, so there's still a fair chance he bounces back. Maccelli is likely to begin 2026-27 in a middle-six role.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
2023
After two successful seasons in a playmaking role, Maccelli was limited to 18 points in 55 appearances in the 2024-25 regular season and ultimately found himself as a regular healthy scratch. After being dealt to Toronto in the offseason, he has plenty of bounce-back potential if he secures a top-six role. However, his lack of physicality and pass-first nature won't help his fantasy value if he isn't piling up assists, and a spot on the second power-play unit instead of the first could hurt his appeal further.
Maccelli has been productive in a complementary role over the past two seasons. He followed up his 49-point effort across 64 appearances in 2022-23 with a 57-point performance in 82 contests last campaign. The 23-year-old forward finished third on the team in scoring and second in even-strength production with 44 points. Maccelli was better at putting pucks on target in 2023-24, improving from 0.95 to 1.82 shots per game. He should see plenty of ice time as an integral middle-six playmaker, resulting in a 50-60-point output for the newly minted Utah HC.
Maccelli finished second on the Coyotes with 38 assists and ranked third on the team with 49 points in 64 games during his rookie season in 2022-23. His 0.77 points per game led all first-year players among those to appear in at least 20 contests. Maccelli also placed second among rookies with 36 even-strength points and fourth with 13 power-play points. He provided Arizona with some much-needed secondary scoring behind Clayton Keller and Nick Schmaltz. Maccelli finished the year with eight goals and 27 points in 34 outings following a 16-game absence because of a lower-body injury. Look for the 22-year-old playmaker to surpass the 50-point plateau in 2023-24, making him an intriguing option in most fantasy formats.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Getting initial look with Matthews
LWToronto Maple Leafs
September 19, 2025
Maccelli has skated alongside Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies early in training camp while Max Domi, who is sidelined by a lower-body injury, is on the mend, David Alter of The Hockey News reports Friday.
ANALYSIS
Maccelli could end up in a number of places in the Maple Leafs' lineup this year. The top line is obviously a potential landing spot, but head coach Craig Berube could also give Maccelli a look as a skill player alongside the bruising duo of Dakota Joshua and Nicolas Roy on the third line. Maccelli's value comes as a playmaker, so a spot alongside Matthews would be ideal for fantasy purposes, but Berube seems interested in establishing pairs of forwards and rotating linemates around until something clicks. That may be a strategy that sees Maccelli's role fluctuate throughout the year depending on his performance.
