2025 Fantasy Outlook
Every team needs a blueliner like Pettersson, and his well-rounded production has even put him in contention for a spot on some fantasy rosters. He split 2024-25 between the Penguins and the Canucks, earning four goals and 29 points over 78 regular-season games, one point shy of matching his career high from the year before. He also reached 100-plus blocked shots (144) for the third year in a row, though he came up short of the 100-hit mark. Pettersson gives the Canucks a reliable second-pairing defenseman who takes care of his own zone and can still chip in decent offense. They rewarded him with a six-year deal shortly after the January trade that sent him west, which secures Pettersson's status as a fixture in the Vancouver lineup. He's a fine option to fill out the depth of a fantasy roster. Read Past Outlooks
Rattles off three points in win
Pettersson scored a goal, dished two assists, went plus-4, doled out three hits and blocked three shots in Wednesday's 8-6 win over the Avalanche.
ANALYSIS
Pettersson ended his 11-game point drought in a big way. The defenseman helped out on a Teddy Blueger tally in the second period, then scored the game-winner at 14:21 of the third before setting up Brock Boeser's empty-netter. Pettersson has provided limited upside on offense with 17 points over 74 appearances this season. He's added 61 shots on net, 60 PIM, 71 hits, 124 blocks and a minus-9 rating in a top-four role on a bad team.

While the Penguins are judged based on playoff performance, which doesn't bode well when you miss the postseason for a second straight year, Pettersson quietly put together a career year in which he set new personal bests in nearly every statistical category. That included goals (four), assists (26), points (30), shots on net (106), plus-minus (28) and average ice time (22:40). The 28-year-old blueliner even recorded the first game-winning goal of his eight-year NHL career. Billed as a shutdown defenseman, the puck-moving blueliner is never going to be confused for his offensively-gifted teammates Erik Karlsson and Kris Letang. Still, Pettersson should continue logging big minutes even without a power-play role and has shown he is capable of producing 25-30 points with added value in formats that value hits and blocks.
