2025 Fantasy Outlook
A 20-goal season proved to be tough to duplicate in 2024-25 for Weegar. He still had a solid 47-point campaign, just five points fewer than his 2023-24 season. Regardless, his drop to eight goals proved that perhaps his 20-goal campaign was an outlier, as that remains his only season with double-digit tallies. Aside from his goal scoring, Weegar's best asset since joining the Flames has been his availability -- he's missed only two games in his three-year Calgary tenure. He's been effective at quarterbacking the top power play, producing 36 power-play points over the last two seasons. However, highly-regarded prospect Zayne Parekh, known for his offensive capabilities, could have a role in 2025-26, so Weegar's power-play usage may be in jeopardy. His spot on the top pair should be solid, but if Parekh proves to be the real deal, Weegar will have to garner more production at even strength to compensate. Read Past Outlooks
Sent to Utah
Weegar was traded to the Mammoth from the Flames on Wednesday in exchange for Olli Maatta, Jonathan Castagna and three 2026 second-round picks, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
ANALYSIS
Weegar is an acquisition that suggests the Mammoth think they can make a run. He'll bolster their defense with strong all-around play, and his fantasy outlook should get a boost from playing in a better offense. Weegar is best for hits and blocked shots, but it's unclear if he'll maintain a power-play role with the Mammoth, as Mikhail Sergachev has been on the first unit and Sean Durzi typically plays on the second. Expect Weegar to see top-four minutes at even strength, though he won't be able to join the team immediately, instead missing 4-10 days while waiting for his visa paperwork to be approved, per Cole Bagley of KSL Sports. That means he's likely to miss the Mammoth's next two games at a minimum.

After never scoring more than eight goals in a season, Weegar erupted with 20 tallies and 32 assists in 82 contests in 2023-24. His increase in offense didn't hamper his other contributions -- he also had career highs in hits (194), blocked shots (200), shots on goal (208) and power-play points (15). Weegar has also been incredibly healthy, missing just five games over the last four campaigns despite his heavy playing style. Looking at last year's numbers could make a novice fantasy manager jump early to land Weegar, but caution should be the word of the day. The 30-year-old will likely regress heavily in goals, and with the Flames fully in rebuilding mode, the rest of his numbers are also likely to take a hit. He's still a solid all-around option, but expect him to land between 40-45 points in 2024-25.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Moving to Utah?
Calgary might be close to trading Weegar to Utah, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Weegar has three goals, 21 points, 69 PIM, 130 hits and 143 blocks while averaging 23:07 of ice time in 60 outings with the Flames in 2025-26. The 32-year-old has an eight-year, $50 million contract that runs through 2030-31, so the Mammoth would be getting far more than just a short-term rental out of this trade. However, Weegar has a full no-trade clause, so he would need to approve the move.
