Lukas Dostal

Lukas Dostal

24-Year-Old GoalieG
Anaheim Ducks
2024 Fantasy Outlook
Dostal started 2023-24 as the backup but seized the starter's reins late in the season. His 14-23-3 record, 3.33 GAA and .902 save percentage in 44 games were solid behind a bad team, but it was his play for Czechia at the IIHF World Championships that really turned heads. Dostal backstopped his team to a gold medal, and he was named Best Goaltender for his 6-2 record with three shutouts, 1.58 GAA and .939 save percentage. He's clearly the future in the Anaheim net, and he's ready to take on a bit more responsibility. Unfortunately, he's somewhat blocked by the untradeable John Gibson, who has struggled for several seasons and is signed for three more. The two men split games last season and could again, but Dostal should really see an uptick in starts to about 50. The Ducks are young, though, so his impact should be tempered. Read Past Outlooks

Takes loss in relief appearance
GAnaheim Ducks
December 24, 2024
Dostal stopped 19 of 22 shots in relief of John Gibson (upper body) in Monday's 3-1 loss to the Golden Knights.
ANALYSIS
Gibson exited late in the first period after taking a stick in the face. That drew a penalty, but Dostal allowed a shorthanded goal to Tanner Pearson to open the scoring. The Golden Knights would add another two goals in the third to send Dostal to the loss, his first in three outings. The 24-year-old netminder is now 8-9-3 with a 2.77 GAA and a .915 save percentage over 20 appearances this season. Dostal has done well to keep the Ducks competitive, but it's unclear if Gibson's injury will force him to miss additional time. Anaheim exits the holiday break by hosting the Flyers on Saturday and the Oilers on Sunday.

Kyle Connor has 111 shots through 33 games. Anaheim is giving up 33.2 shots per game. It's the perfect matchup for the Jet winger, making him a great value play for Wednesday DraftKings NHL DFS contests.
2023 Fantasy Outlook
Dostal is a young goaltender with plenty of promise, but last season he tended the net of a Ducks squad struggling defensively, which resulted in a 4-10-3 record, a 3.78 GAA and a .901 save percentage in 19 contests. Remarkably, that's actually slightly better numbers than John Gibson, who posted a 3.99 GAA and an .899 save percentage, which highlights just how miserable an experience it is to be a Ducks goaltender. In the long run, Anaheim's core could grow to the point where the Ducks are a serious contender and that might align with Dostal being at his peak. For the 2023-24 campaign, though, he's likely to serve as the backup netminder, and a combination of growing pains and Anaheim's defensive issues are likely to prevent him from putting up passable numbers for most fantasy managers.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Could start two straight
GAnaheim Ducks
December 20, 2022
Dostal, who will start between the pipes in Tuesday's road game versus LA, could start at home Wednesday against the Wild as well if John Gibson, who's dealing with an undisclosed issue, or Anthony Stolarz, who's been sidelined with a lower-body injury, isn't available, Eric Stephens of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Dostal will be making a third straight start Tuesday, and it appears as though he could make it four straight against Minnesota if one of Anaheim's top two netminders is unable to return. Dostal was excellent in his last start Saturday against Edmonton, stopping 46 of 49 shots in a 4-3 win.
