2025 Fantasy Outlook
The Sharks' summer shopping spree will likely prevent Cagnoni from seeing substantial NHL action in 2025-26. The blueliner had two assists over six games with the Sharks last year, but at 20 years old, he'll benefit from getting more playing time with AHL San Jose rather than suffering through another year of rebuilding with the big club. Cagnoni is still a player to keep an eye on in long-term fantasy formats -- he had 52 points in 64 regular-season outings with the Barracuda in his first professional season, which is some impressive production for an AHL rookie blueliner. Sent back down
Cagnoni was sent to AHL San Jose on Friday, Max Miller of NHL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Cagnoni spent the final few days of the regular season with the Sharks, and he recorded no points, five hits, three blocked shots and two PIM while averaging 18:02 of ice time over three appearances with the NHL club. He'll head back to the Barracuda ahead of their two-game series to close out their regular season, and he should also be available for the AHL squad during the Calder Cup Playoffs.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Expected to go pro
Cagnoni is expected to forego his overage season in the WHL and turn pro ahead of the 2024-25 campaign, Sheng Peng of San Jose Hockey Now reports Monday.
ANALYSIS
Cagnoni will likely begin his professional career in the AHL -- the left-shot defenseman is only 19 years of age. The Burnaby native was a fourth-round selection by San Jose in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. The young blueliner was highly productive during his time in the WHL -- he banked 90 points and a plus-47 rating in 65 regular-season contests. Cagnoni's offensive instincts from the backend will make him an intriguing prospect to follow as he continues to develop his game in 2024-25.
