Logan O'Connor

Logan O'Connor

28-Year-Old Right WingRW
Colorado Avalanche
2024 Fantasy Outlook
A hip injury limited O'Connor to just 57 regular-season contests with the Avalanche this past season. In those appearances, the 27-year-old winger posted a career-high 13 goals, reaching the 20-point threshold for the third straight season, despite his lack of games. It's possible there is a spot in the top six up for grabs heading into the 2024-25 campaign - though both youngster Nikolai Kovalenko and veteran Valeri Nichushkin could be in the mix as well. Even if O'Connor finds himself stuck in a third-line role, he should still be capable of producing another 25-point campaign, perhaps even pushing for the 30-point mark. Read Past Outlooks

O'Connor scored a goal on two shots in Sunday's 5-4 win over the Senators.
ANALYSIS
The tally was O'Connor's first point of 2024-25. He's been pressed into a second-line role for much of the season due to a number of injuries to other forwards. O'Connor missed a large portion of 2023-24 after undergoing hip surgery and appears to still be getting his overall game back up to speed. He's added 11 shots on net, 23 hits, nine PIM and a minus-4 rating through nine appearances. Once the Avalanche get healthier, he'll likely be a regular on the third line.

O'Connor is nothing if not consistent. His numbers in his second full NHL season (nine goals, 26 points, plus-11, 116 hits, 50 blocked shots in 82 games) were eerily similar to what we saw from him a year prior (eight goals, 24 points, plus-10, 100 hits, 59 blocks in 81 games). Everything we have seen the past couple years suggests O'Connor is a favorite of the Colorado coaching staff and his role as a regular in the Avalanche lineup is safe, but he's going to fill a bottom-six gig in the process, one that leads to minimal fantasy value. Look elsewhere on draft day.
O'Connor seized a full-time role for the Avalanche in 2021-22 and immediately became an important depth player for the team. He played in 81 of the club's 82 regular-season games, posting eight goals, 24 points, 100 hits and 59 blocks. Those aren't numbers that will help you win your fantasy championship, but O'Connor, at age 26, has proven to be an ideal bottom-six forward for a top-tier team that is always operating right near the salary cap. The Texan has three years remaining on his contract at a cap hit of a shade over $1 million.
O'Connor opened his NHL account with a pair of goals in 16 appearances for the Avalanche in 2019-20. The undrafted 24-year-old forward also had 25 points in 40 contests with AHL Colorado. O'Connor will be in the mix for a bottom-six job entering 2020-21, but he'd have to outplay Matt Calvert or Pierre-Edouard Bellemare to have a realistic chance at an everyday job. More than likely, O'Connor will end up on the Avalanche's taxi squad, which will limit his opportunities to get ice time at the NHL level. The Texas native is probably a couple years away from getting a longer look with the big club.

O'Connor will slide up to the top line in the wake of injuries to Nathan MacKinnon and J.T. Compher, Rick Sadowski of NHL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
With two of the team's top three centers on the mend, Mikko Rantanen will slide from wing to center and O'Connor will be promoted to the top line alongside Rantanen and Gabriel Landeskog. Coach Jared Bednar said O'Connor has earned this opportunity, praising the 25-year-old winger's work ethic.
