2025 Fantasy Outlook
Sherwood struggled to find his footing in the NHL across his first six years in the league, but he found a home, at least temporarily, in Vancouver by signing a two-year, $3 million contract with the team in the 2024 free-agency class. Besides Quinn Hughes, Sherwood was arguably Vancouver’s most impactful player last season -- he set an NHL record for the most hits (462) in a season and broke out offensively with 19 goals and 40 points over 78 games, all career highs. The 30-year-old also had personal bests in shots on goal (141) and shooting percentage (13.5) while earning 14:53 of ice time per game, so he has a strong foundation to build on heading into 2025-26. With a new bench boss in Adam Foote and the fact that it’s the final year of his contract, the hard-hitting winger has plenty of reasons to continue proving his worth. Read Past Outlooks
Agrees to five-year extension
Sherwood signed a five-year, $28.75 million contract extension with San Jose on Wednesday, according to Chris Johnston of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
The Sharks acquired Sherwood from Vancouver on Jan. 19 in exchange for a 2026 second-round pick, a 2027 second-round selection and Cole Clayton. The 30-year-old Sherwood has 18 goals, 25 points, 127 shots, 30 PIM and 238 hits in 49 outings between Vancouver and San Jose in 2025-26. Although his overall points production isn't high, he does enough between his physical play and goal-scoring abilities to log significant minutes. He's averaged 17:32 of ice time this season, and that trend has continued with him logging 17:21 per game across four outings since the Olympic break.

Sherwood logged a career-high 68 regular-season games with Nashville in 2023-24, which resulted in him collecting 10 goals and 27 points. That's not bad production for a player averaging 12:10 of ice time, but his real value is tied to his physical play. The 29-year-old dished out 234 hits last year, and he'll likely end up with a similar total if his new team, the Canucks, deploy him regularly. While nothing is guaranteed, the two-year, $3 million contract Vancouver signed him to suggests that they're looking for him to be a mainstay on at least the fourth line. Just keep in mind that for all his hits, Sherwood isn't a major source of PIM, collecting a moderate 41 last season.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Finalizing five-year deal
Sherwood and the Sharks appear to be closing in on a five-year, $30 million contract extension, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Sherwood has one goal, 18 shots, one assist and 28 hits in five games with the Sharks after being acquired from Vancouver. With the two sides closing in on a new agreement, Sherwood's name will likely drop out of the rumor mill ahead of Friday's trade deadline. While Sherwood probably won't replicate his 40-point campaign from last season, he should still have enough time to get over 30 while providing plenty of hits.
