Stenlund signed a one-year, $2.75 million contract with the Mammoth on Wednesday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
ANALYSIS
Stenlund has made at least 80 regular-season appearances in three consecutive years. Across 80 regular-season games with Utah last year, he recorded four goals, 14 assists, 61 blocked shots, 43 hits and 24 PIM while averaging 14:29 of ice time. He should have the opportunity to maintain consistent playing time with the Mammoth during the 2026-27 campaign.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

Stenlund's role as a fourth-line center means he won't often be a big part of the offense, but he still managed to produce a career-high 28 points (14 goals, 14 assists) in 2024-25. He had never logged more than 15 points in a season, but Stenlund clearly found a comfortable spot in Utah, especially as a reliable defensive forward to help take care of business while younger players learn the ropes. Stenlund's shooting percentage (13.7) was right in line with the previous year, so his gains on offense largely came from a larger volume. Heading into 2025-26, it's tough to expect more than 25-30 points from Stenlund, and at a position like center, that's typically not enough to help in most fantasy formats, though he shouldn't have trouble staying in the Mammoth's lineup.
Fresh off a Stanley Cup championship with Florida, Stenlund inked a two-year, $4 million deal with Utah HC this offseason. With the Panthers, the 27-year-old center set new personal bests with 11 goals, 15 points and 83 hits while averaging 12:36 of ice time over 81 games. Utah is clearly bringing in Stenlund based on his regular-season contributions considering he managed just one point in his 24 playoff performances. The Swede figures to be locked into a bottom-six role for his new team and will be hard-pressed to offer much in the way of offensive productivity.
He didn't stand out much, but Stenlund was a fine bottom-six forward for the Jets in 2022-23. He racked up nine points and 63 shots in a career-high 54 games. The 26-year-old will get a change of scenery after he went unqualified by Winnipeg and was subsequently signed with Florida over the summer. The big issue is that Stenlund may have trouble staying in the Panthers' lineup this year given his lack of scoring prowess. The team rounded out its bottom-six depth with Evan Rodrigues and Steven Lorentz over the summer, and Stenlund lacks the physical edge that has complemented the Panthers' fast pace of play.
The 24-year-old split last season between the NHL (32 games) and AHL (33 games) and scored six goals at each level. Stenlund has good size and hockey IQ and profiles best as the center on a checking line due to his merely adequate skating and lack of high-end offensive skills, but the Jackets' new-found depth up the middle could push him to a wing this season if he wins a regular spot in the lineup.
