Inks two-way deal

June 29, 2026
Roy signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Mammoth on Monday.
ANALYSIS
After making NHL appearances for the Canadiens in each of the past three seasons, Roy was traded to Utah from Montreal earlier Monday. He was able to reach an agreement with his new team a few hours later, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him split time between the AHL and NHL under his two-way deal during the 2026-27 campaign. Across 57 regular-season appearances with AHL Laval last year, Roy recorded 23 goals, 22 assists and 32 PIM.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
Roy showed promise with AHL Laval during the 2024-25 regular season, supplying 20 goals and 35 points in 47 outings, but he was limited to two points (both goals) across 12 appearances with the Canadiens. He averaged just 11:01 of ice time during his time with Montreal last season, so that probably contributed to the lack of offense, but it will be difficult for the 22-year-old to earn a bigger role, especially as more highly regarded young forwards like Ivan Demidov seem to have leapfrogged him on the organizational depth chart. Roy isn’t a good bet to make the Canadiens’ Opening Night roster, but he would be worth keeping an eye on if he gets any work at the top level this year.
A former QMJHL scoring champion, Roy turned pro last season and made an immediate impact. He had 13 goals and 42 points in 41 AHL games, adding four goals and nine points in 23 games with Montreal before an upper-body injury ended his year in March. Roy's ability to serve as a secondary source of scoring for the Habs was notable given the fact he averaged less than a minute (0:58) worth of power-play ice time. Originally a fifth-round pick of the Canadiens in 2021, Roy, who will play the entirety of the upcoming season at age 20, should be in the mix for a middle-six role for Montreal out of training camp.
