Josh Doan

Josh Doan

24-Year-Old Right WingRW
Buffalo Sabres
2026 Fantasy Outlook
Doan may end up being the best player in the deal that sent him to Buffalo last June. He took a huge step in his first year with the Sabres, earning 25 goals, 27 assists, 170 shots on net and 78 hits across 82 regular-season games. Doan averaged 15:52 of ice time, including 2:47 per game on the power play, where he had 17 of his points. The winger is firmly established in the middle six now, and at 24 years old, he's still got room to grow. Buffalo already appreciates his skills, having signed him to a seven-year, $48.65 million extension in January. Doan could develop into a 30-goal, 60-point regular during his prime years, with enough contributions in hits and shots to give him a safe floor. Fantasy managers can take him as a mid-to-late round option to fill out their wing depth. Read Past Outlooks

The 24-year-old is up to a total of 10 points, 27 shots, 23 hits and a plus-5 rating over 11 playoff contests. He led Sabres forwards with 21:32 of ice time Thursday and will need to put in another strong performance Saturday in Game 6 with the season on the line.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
Doan had two stints in the NHL, a brief one to begin the campaign and a longer stretch to close it out, in 2024-25. While he looked overmatched in the earlier stint, he found his way as a third-liner after he got called back up in January. Doan finished the season with 19 points, 88 shots on net, 45 hits and a minus-2 rating over a total of 51 appearances with Utah. The 23-year-old forward looks ready to make the full-time leap in 2025-26, but he'll have to adjust to a new organization after being dealt to the Sabres in June. Doan is still worth keeping an eye on for fantasy purposes as a possible depth option for managers since he's young and has breakout potential if he settles in well.
The son of former Coyotes legend Shane Doan, Josh recently completed what was a wildly successful first full pro season. He had 26 goals and 46 points in 62 AHL games. Doan was then recalled in late March and scored twice in his NHL debut. He finished with five goals and nine points in 11 games for the Coyotes. Doan isn't going to shoot 21.7 percent over the course of a full season, but he is a legitimate prospect. Still 22 years of age, the Arizona native should open the season on Utah's third line and threaten the 20-goal mark in his first full NHL campaign.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Might sign extension soon
RWBuffalo Sabres
January 21, 2026
Doan might be closing in on a contract extension with the Sabres, per Emily Kaplan of ESPN on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Doan has made significant strides this campaign, recording 15 goals and 35 points in 49 outings with the Sabres after finishing the 2024-25 regular season with seven goals and 19 points in 51 appearances with Utah. Buffalo acquired him from Utah over the summer, along with Michael Kesselring, in exchange for JJ Peterka. Although Peterka was seen as the highlight of the trade at the time, Doan's 35 points actually narrowly beat out Peterka's 32 in 49 appearances this campaign.
