Joseph Woll

Joseph Woll

27-Year-Old GoalieG
Toronto Maple Leafs
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Woll led the Maple Leafs with 42 games played, though his workload was due to some injuries Anthony Stolarz battled. When both were healthy, the crease was split pretty evenly between them, and the results were pretty good regardless of who was between the pipes. Stolarz's numbers were better, but Woll performed at a fine level with a 27-14-1 record, a 2.73 GAA and a .909 save percentage in 2024-25. Both goalies are under contract for 2025-26, so it's safe to assume the Maple Leafs won't make a change in goal. Even if they get an even split of starts again, the 27-year-old Woll is a viable No. 2 goalie in fantasy who could emerge as a low-end No. 1 if he gets a run of starts. Read Past Outlooks
Signed a three-year, $10.98 million contract with the Maple Leafs in July of 2024.
Back in action Tuesday
GToronto Maple Leafs
January 27, 2026
Woll will start Tuesday's home matchup with the Sabres, Mark Masters of TSN reports.
ANALYSIS
Despite losing each of his last two outings, Woll has stepped up his game with a 2.51 GAA and a .935 save percentage across the pair of starts. Entering Tuesday's contest, the 27-year-old netminder has an 11-6-4 record, a 2.86 GAA and a .911 save percentage over 22 appearances this season. Tuesday's clash with the Sabres will make returning to the win column difficult for Woll, as Buffalo ranks seventh in the NHL with 3.31 goals per game this season. While he is a risky start in fantasy, he also holds high upside with 72 saves over his last two outings.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Woll is a talented netminder, but talent is irrelevant if you can't stay on the ice. The 26-year-old has played just 36 NHL games over the last three seasons (37 AHL). If healthy, Woll could deliver a top-12 performance behind a vastly improved Leafs blue line and a high-scoring offense. He's an above-average netminder with the kind of unflappable vibe that's needed in Toronto. He's shown periods of elite play, he went 6-1-0 with a 2.16 GAA and .932 save percentage in limited games in 2022-23, but fantasy managers need to use caution with Woll until he can stay out of the infirmary. The Leafs will be focusing on his off-ice work in an attempt to keep him healthy. They brought in elite backup, Anthony Stolarz, to be Woll's NBo. 2. Make sure you have a lot of net options if you take the plunge with Woll.
Woll appeared in seven games for the Leafs a year ago, mostly late in the season, and was brilliant, finishing with a 6-1-0 record, a 2.16 GAA and a .932 save percentage. He also appeared in what would be Toronto's final three postseason games against the Panthers, again playing well (2.36 GAA, .921 save percentage). Originally a third-round pick of the team in 2016, Woll really struggled at the AHL level prior to 2022-23, making his mini-breakout all the more shocking. Ilya Samsonov will be back as Toronto's No. 1 goaltender while the Maple Leafs signed veteran Martin Jones to a one-year deal to compete with Woll for the backup job. All things considered, it's a battle the Boston College product should win.

Likely to start Wednesday
GToronto Maple Leafs
January 21, 2026
Woll wasn't on the ice for Toronto's optional morning skate Wednesday, Mark Masters of TSN reports, indicating that he'll likely draw the home start against the Red Wings.
ANALYSIS
Woll hasn't been very effective over his last two outings, going 0-1-1 and allowing 11 goals on 62 shots, but he'll likely draw a second consecutive start Wednesday. The Red Wings have had a middling offense this year, ranking 17th in the league with 3.10 goals per game.
