Hanley agreed to terms on a two-year, $3.5 million contract with the Flames in free agency after setting career highs in points (nine), games played (53), average ice time (18:35), blocked shots (90) and plus-minus rating (plus-12) in 2024-25. The veteran defenseman will continue to be relied on as a defensive specialist this season, but he may also serve as a periodic healthy scratch. Hanley could approach 100 blocked shots if he sets a new high-water mark in appearances in 2025-26, but the 34-year-old shouldn’t be on most fantasy managers’ radars because of his all-around lack of production. After the Flames picked Hanley up off waivers from the Stars, he went on to make 10 appearances for Calgary in which he registered one goal on seven shots, one assist and 15 blocks. Considering the 33-year-old blueliner has registered a mere 29 points across nine NHL seasons, fantasy managers probably shouldn't be banking on him suddenly providing offensive output -- especially considering the Ontario native is far from a lock even to make the lineup on a nightly basis. Even in banger-league categories like hits and blocks, Hanley doesn't offer much in the way of fantasy value.
