Joel Farabee

Joel Farabee

24-Year-Old Left WingLW
Philadelphia Flyers
2024 Fantasy Outlook
With four NHL campaigns under his belt, Farabee took a decent step forward last season, posting 22 goals and 55 points to break his previous career high of 39 points. That fact that he had any offensive increase at all was a testament to the 24-year-old's developing skills, given that his playing time actually dropped to an average of 16:11 from 17:01 in 2022-23. Unfortunately for Farabee, it's not clear if there will be an opportunity for him to get more choice minutes this year in an environment where the 22-year-old Tyson Foerster will also be competing for a bigger role and top prospect Matvei Michkov might crack the lineup while serving in a middle-six capacity. Farabee should still get enough work to flirt with the 50-point mark again but hoping for anything more than that would be risky. Read Past Outlooks

Finds twine in loss
LWPhiladelphia Flyers
December 8, 2024
Farabee scored a goal on four shots and added five hits in Sunday's 4-2 loss to Utah.
ANALYSIS
Farabee hadn't scored since Nov. 9 versus the Panthers, producing just two assists over 12 games between tallies. The 24-year-old winger has seen top-line usage over the last couple of weeks, likely in an effort to get him going on offense. He's had at least three shots on net in eight straight games, so it's likely just a matter of time before he starts converting more regularly. Farabee now has four goals, 10 points, 63 shots on net, 36 hits, 17 blocked shots, 17 PIM and a minus-9 rating over 28 appearances.

For the second year in a row, Farabee's goal-scoring went down while his games played went up. He had 15 tallies and 24 assists in 81 contests in 2022-23, while adding 145 hits and 71 shots on goal. He's still a reliable forward for head coach John Tortorella, but that role on a low-scoring team that lacks a true superstar forward gives Farabee a lower ceiling than most players in similar roster spots. At 23 years old, there's still room for him to grow into a 25-goal, 50-point threat for years to come. He'll have upside with youth on his side, but playing in a defense-first system could nullify much of that for fantasy managers searching for late-round offense. It may be wise to look elsewhere in the later rounds of this year's drafts.
Very few Flyers were immune from a drop in production in the team's disastrous 2021-22 season, and Farabee was no exception. He managed 17 goals and 34 points in 63 games. Farabee missed a significant amount of time on two separate occasions before the cherry on top, cervical disc replacement surgery this offseason, which was expected to cost him 3-4 months. Farabee will need to clear all hurdles in his rehab without issue in order to be ready for Opening Night. Except Philadelphia to be cautious with Farabee considering he is just 22 years old and a big part of their future, so don't be shocked if he misses the early portion of the season as he recovers.
After a bit of a disappointing rookie campaign where he scored just eight goals and 21 points in 52 games, Farabee enjoyed a breakout sophomore season with the Flyers in 2020-21. He racked up 20 goals, 38 points and 48 hits through 55 games. Farabee also saw a nice boost in his average ice time, jumping from 14:06 to 16:01 per game in his second year. The 21-year-old winger chipped in seven power-play points and he should have a secure spot on the team's second power-play unit this season. Expect Farabee to take another step forward with his offensive production in a full season skating in the top six in 2021-22.
Farabee adjusted fairly well to the NHL with 21 points in 52 games as a rookie last year. Still only 20 years old, the New York native is poised for at least a middle-six job with the Flyers in 2020-21. Farabee played all over the lineup last year to account for injury absences, but the natural left wing is expected to slot in on the right wing on the second line this season. There's plenty of reason to think Farabee can push for 30 points in a shortened 56-game campaign - one being Kevin Hayes is a solid No. 2 center that can convert feeds from Farabee at a solid rate. A few extra PIM could be enough to give Farabee fantasy attention in deeper formats.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
May not return to Philly
LWPhiladelphia Flyers
June 10, 2024
Farabee is a strong candidate to be traded during the offseason, per Kevin Kurz of The Athletic on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Farabee faces a logjam for a top-six role, which is why Kurz speculates that the 24-year-old winger will be shipped out via trade during the offseason. The Syracuse native has played in all 82 games in each of the previous two seasons, setting new personal bests this past year with 22 goals and 28 helpers. With a new club, Farabee should be in the mix for a top-six role and could see plenty of opportunities with the man advantage, which is something he hasn't seen on a full-time basis in Philadelphia.
