J.J. Moser

26-Year-Old DefensemanD
Tampa Bay Lightning
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Moser hit career lows offensively in the 2024-25 regular season, accounting for two goals and 14 points while being limited to 54 appearances. He missed 28 straight games from mid-December to early February because of a lower-body injury. Upon his return to the lineup, Moser chipped in only four assists in 32 outings, including five playoff contests. He reached the 30-point plateau once in three seasons with Arizona before joining the Lightning. Moser logged most of his playing time alongside Victor Hedman, and he is a decent source of blocks and hits, but the 25-year-old defender may be capable of around just 20 points in 2025-26. April 26, 2026
Moser logged two assists and three blocked shots in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Canadiens in Game 4.
ANALYSIS
Moser set up Jake Guentzel's goal late in the second period and had a hand in Brandon Hagel's go-ahead tally in the third. With a goal and two assists over four games in this first-round series, the 26-year-old Moser has offered a little depth scoring from the blue line. He has also maintained his shutdown role with a plus-2 rating, nine blocked shots and six hits. This is his second year in the postseason -- Moser was held off the scoresheet in all five of his playoff outings in 2025.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Moser was dealt to Tampa Bay in the offseason in the trade that sent Mikhail Sergachev to Utah. The 24-year-old Moser had five goals and 26 points over 80 contests last campaign. He was also credited with 112 blocked shots and a career-high 99 hits. Moser has reached the 30-point mark once in his first three NHL seasons and doesn't produce many shots on goal, which hinders his fantasy value. Still, he will probably occupy a top-four role and log big minutes on the penalty kill.
In his second NHL season, Moser secured top-pairing minutes with the Coyotes. He averaged 21:03 of ice time, second-most among skaters with at least 50 games played in Arizona. With that increased role, he tallied seven goals and 24 assists, including three goals and eight assists with the man advantage. The 23-year-old also led the team with 137 blocked shots while adding 80 hits and 35 PIM. Moser played all 82 games last year and will once again be relied on as a workhorse for the Coyotes during the 2023-24 campaign. He should produce 30-plus points for the second straight season, though the addition of Sean Durzi in a trade with the Kings could reduce Moser's power-play time.

Set to join Switzerland
DTampa Bay Lightning
May 5, 2026
Moser is planning to link up with Switzerland for the 2026 IIHF World Championship, Erik Erlendsson of LightningInsider.com reports Tuesday.
ANALYSIS
Moser recorded one goal, two assists and 14 blocks in seven playoff games against the Habs after having managed 29 points in 79 regular-season tilts. Over his five-year NHL career, the 26-year-old defenseman has reached the 30-point threshold just once, though he should be close to reaching that mark every year.
