2025 Fantasy Outlook
With Marc-Andre Fleury's retirement after the 2024-25 season, Wallstedt has his best chance to make the NHL roster out of the gate in 2025-26. However, he won't have much momentum on his side after an AHL season in which he went 9-14-4 with a 3.59 GAA and a .879 save percentage. The 22-year-old also allowed eight goals over two NHL appearances last season. Wallstedt is the Wild's goalie of the future, but he won't be handed the crease on a silver platter. He'll have to compete with Filip Gustavsson for every start, and it's possible the Wild add a veteran on a two-way deal to provide competition for Wallstedt. In redraft formats, fantasy managers can wait and see how the workload gets divided in Minnesota's crease. Read Past Outlooks
Tending twine Tuesday
Wallstedt will start in Tuesday's home clash against the Blackhawks, Jessi Pierce of NHL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Wallstedt enters Tuesday's contest with three consecutive losses, which is the longest losing streak of his rookie campaign. In that span, he has a 5.66 GAA and an .817 save percentage. Overall, the 23-year-old netminder has a 12-5-4 record, a 2.71 GAA, a .912 save percentage and four shutouts across 21 outings this season. With Filip Gustavsson beginning to see more frequent starts, Wallstedt will likely start seeing a true backup's workload for the time being if he can't turn things around quickly. Luckily for him, he will face a Blackhawks offense that ranks 27th with 2.65 goals per game this season, making Tuesday's game a strong bounce-back opportunity for the young goaltender.

2024 Fantasy Outlook
Wallstedt is one of the top goaltending prospects in pro hockey, and his time could be fast approaching. His consistency has sometimes been criticized as robotic, and he doesn't have Yaroslav Askarov's acrobatic athleticism, but fantasy managers will take strong and steady any day of the week. While Minnesota's Filip Gustavsson struggled in the NHL, Wallstedt had a terrific season behind a weak Iowa squad in the AHL. His .910 save percentage was top 20 overall for a team that finished among the league's worst. It would be a huge step for Wallstedt to start in the NHL, but he could end up splitting time with Marc-Andre Fleury if Gustavsson gets traded. Minnesota's goaltending situation will be worth monitoring in 2024-25.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Expected to start Sunday
Wallstedt is expected to defend the visiting crease in Winnipeg on Sunday, according to Jessi Pierce of NHL.com.
ANALYSIS
Wallstedt is part of a three-goaltender rotation in Minnesota this season, along with Filip Gustavsson and Marc-Andre Fleury. Gustavsson got the call Opening Night on Thursday, while Fleury is expected to play at home Saturday against the Kraken. That leaves Sunday's tilt in Winnipeg for Wallstedt to make his season debut. Wallstedt is considered the Wild's goaltender of the future and playing with the veteran Fleury all season can only help his career.
