2024 Fantasy Outlook

Wallstedt is one of the top goaltending prospects in pro hockey, and his time could be fast approaching. His consistency has sometimes been criticized as robotic, and he doesn't have Yaroslav Askarov's acrobatic athleticism, but fantasy managers will take strong and steady any day of the week. While Minnesota's Filip Gustavsson struggled in the NHL, Wallstedt had a terrific season behind a weak Iowa squad in the AHL. His .910 save percentage was top 20 overall for a team that finished among the league's worst. It would be a huge step for Wallstedt to start in the NHL, but he could end up splitting time with Marc-Andre Fleury if Gustavsson gets traded. Victor Olofsson tallied twice and Shea Theodore had the other goal to send Wallstedt to the loss in his NHL season debut. Wallstedt was called up after Saturday's game versus the Flyers because Filip Gustavsson (lower body) is dealing with an injury. Wallstedt is considered a top goalie prospect, but he has struggled at the AHL level this year, so he likely still needs more development time, which he should get once Gustavsson is back to 100 percent.

ANALYSIS
Wallstedt is part of a three-goaltender rotation in Minnesota this season, along with Filip Gustavsson and Marc-Andre Fleury. Gustavsson got the call Opening Night on Thursday, while Fleury is expected to play at home Saturday against the Kraken. That leaves Sunday's tilt in Winnipeg for Wallstedt to make his season debut. Wallstedt is considered the Wild's goaltender of the future and playing with the veteran Fleury all season can only help his career.
