2025 Fantasy Outlook
Some players crumble under the pressure of living up to a new contract, but Oettinger didn't do that in 2024-25. He signed an eight-year extension just after the start of the season, and that deal kicks in for 2025-26. He didn't rest on his laurels, putting up a 36-18-4 record with a 2.59 GAA and a .909 save percentage in 58 regular-season games. It's not the best Oettinger has done, but he remains among the top goalies in the league. He's reached the 30-win mark four years in a row and has never posted a save percentage lower than .905 in a full season. With a strong and deep Stars team in front of him, Oettinger is reliable in virtually all fantasy formats. Read Past Outlooks

2020
Oettinger had an off year in 2023-24. Despite sitting sixth on the NHL win list (35), the 25-year-old netminder barely cracked the top-20 in GAA (2.72) and tied for 25th in save percentage (.905) among backstops with 25 or more starts. And his GSAx (goals saved above expectation) dropped from eight-best in the NHL in 2022-23 to 50th last year. Still, Oettinger is one of the best young goalies in the world - he has two All-Star appearances in his three full seasons, and he's already been in the top-five voting for the Vezina twice. Casey DeSmith is a sturdy, but unspectacular backup, so expect Oettinger to log 55-60 starts and get back into elite territory. He's in the top tier in the NHL and will only get better. Last year was a blip.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Occupying starter's crease
Oettinger is working in the starter's crease ahead of Tuesday's home clash with Vegas, Stars radio analyst Bruce LeVine reports, indicating he'll tend the twine.
ANALYSIS
Oettinger has given up three or more goals in five of his last seven outings but has still managed to avoid suffering a regulation loss. Over that stretch, the netminder is 6-0- 1 with a 2.91 GAA and .870 save percentage. The 27-year-old Minnesota native is generally a workhorse option between the pipes, but he could be rested more down the stretch in order to keep him fresh for the postseason.
