2025 Fantasy Outlook
Gilbert played in just 29 NHL games last season, spending much of the year as a healthy scratch in his two stops with the Sabres and the Senators. He signed with the Flyers in the offseason, and he will compete for a depth role during training camp. With Rasmus Ristolainen dealing with a triceps injury that might keep him out at the start of the season, Gilbert might land a spot for Opening Night. Still, the 28-year-old Gilbert isn't much of a point producer, though he can be a decent source of hits. Read Past Outlooks

Slated to miss several weeks
DOttawa Senators
Upper Body
March 26, 2026
The Senators announced Thursday that Gilbert (upper body) will miss approximately three weeks, Julian McKenzie of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert suffered an upper-body injury during Saturday's game against Toronto and was expected to miss time. He's officially facing a multi-week return timetable that could force him to miss the remainder of the regular season, but it seems possible that he could be back in action for a potential playoff run.

Gilbert joins a crowded defensive group that also includes Kale Clague, Jacob Bryson and Ryan Johnson - all of whom are in the mix for a spot on the Opening Night roster. Even if the 27-year-old Gilbert does make the team coming out of training camp, it will almost certainly be as the seventh or eighth blueliner and his hold on a roster spot will no doubt be tenuous at best. At this point, Gilbert's lack of opportunities doesn't warrant keeping him even in dynasty formats as there figures to be younger, up-and-coming options worth stashing.
If the Flames' good health persists into 2023-24, Gilbert is unlikely to be in the lineup much. He was able to fill in for 23 games last season, picking up four points, 55 hits, 26 blocked shots and 27 PIM while seeing limited usage in a third-pairing role. It's tough to say Gilbert has the talent to stick at the NHL level, but his one-way contract and the Flames' lack of defensive prospects ready to make the jump could at least keep him on the roster. He can be useful for physical production in extremely deep formats when he plays, but he's a non-factor in most fantasy pools.
Gilbert has collected 22 games of NHL experience over the last two years, but he has just three points to show for it. The 24-year-old has added 80 hits and 34 blocked shots over that same span. He joined the Avalanche as part of the Brandon Saad trade with Chicago, but Gilbert is far from a lock to see much playing time in 2020-21. He'll benefit from Colorado's relative lack of NHL-capable, left-shot defenders, which almost guarantees Gilbert will be with the big club on Opening Night. That said, he's more of a defense-first player, which gives him next to no fantasy appeal, even in deeper formats.

Set for trade
DPhiladelphia Flyers
November 17, 2025
Gilbert is expected to be sent to Ottawa by Philadelphia on Monday in exchange for Maxence Guenette, Bruce Garrioch of Postmedia reports.
ANALYSIS
Gilbert has 111 games of NHL experience under his belt compared to the eight for Guenette, who is also five years younger than Gilbert. It's a return of sorts for Gilbert, having logged four games for the Senators last year before signing with the Flyers in the offseason.
