David Jiricek

David Jiricek

22-Year-Old DefensemanD
Philadelphia Flyers
2025 Fantasy Outlook
After getting traded from the Blue Jackets to the Wild at the beginning of last season, Jiricek got a brief taste of what life would be like in a Wild sweater, playing six games with the big club and displaying the talent that made him the sixth-overall pick in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft. The 21-year-old spent most of the rest of the season with AHL Iowa, where he had just seven assists in 27 games, before a lacerated spleen ended his season. However, with the way the Minnesota defense corps is shaping up, the young blueliner will be given every chance to make the roster and be a meaningful contributor in 2025-26. He has the size and offensive capabilities to stick, but what his role ends up being will likely determine whether or not he’s worth a flier in fantasy. Read Past Outlooks

Agrees to two-year extension
DPhiladelphia Flyers  Minors
April 1, 2026
Jiricek signed a two-year, $3 million contract extension with the Flyers on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
Jiricek has four goals and 20 points in 34 AHL outings between Iowa and Lehigh Valley in 2025-26. He also had no points, 14 PIM, 15 shots, eight hits and 19 blocks in 25 appearances with Minnesota this season before he was dealt from the Wild to Philadelphia on March 6 in exchange for Bobby Brink. Although Jiricek is in the minors, his new contract suggests that Philadelphia anticipates him playing in the NHL next season.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Jiricek, the No. 6 overall pick in 2022, was in and out of the Columbus lineup last season. He appeared in 43 games, managing a goal and 10 points. He added 19 points in 29 games for their AHL affiliate in Cleveland. The 20-year-old should be a lock for a roster spot this time around, but his power-play time figures to be quite limited with Zach Werenski around and top prospect Denton Mateychuk pushing for a role. Jiricek is a clear hold in keeper and dynasty formats, but his redraft value figures to be minimal while playing for what projects to be a poor club.
One of the top defensive prospects in the NHL, Jiricek, the No. 6 overall pick in 2022, was brilliant in his first AHL campaign last year, posting a half dozen goals and 38 points in 55 games. However, he went scoreless in a brief four-game stint with the Blue Jackets. A two-way horse with the ability to impact the game in all three zones, Jiricek is going to be a good one, although he may begin the upcoming season back in the minors following the acquisitions of Ivan Provorov and Damon Severson by Columbus via trade this offseason. He's almost certainly already rostered in dynasty/keeper formats, and unless it looks like he's going to come out of camp with a full-time NHL role, Jiricek can probably safely be left on the board in redraft leagues this year.

DMinnesota Wild  Minors
March 6, 2026
Jiricek is expected to be traded to the Flyers from the Wild in exchange for Bobby Brink, Emily Kaplan of ESPN reports Friday.
ANALYSIS
Jiricek hasn't produced huge offensive numbers with AHL Iowa this season, generating just 10 points in 24 games while also posting a minus-15 rating. While the 22-year-old blueliner remains a top prospect after being selected sixth overall in the 2022 NHL Draft, the Wild are in win-now mode and are stocked up defensively after bringing in Quinn Hughes. Brink figures to offer the club some much-needed depth scoring and will immediately factor into the NHL roster, something Jiricek is unlikely to do this year.
