David Gustafsson

Throughout the last five seasons, Gustafsson has played in 113 regular-season contests in which he's garnered four goals, 10 assists and 77 shots on net while averaging just 8:45 of ice time per game. Despite his limited role, the natural center will remain with Winnipeg after signing a two-year, $1.67 million deal with the Jets this offseason. While the 24-year-old Swede could still develop his game further, he is unlikely to turn into anything more than a depth option at this point. As such, fantasy managers probably don't need to track his availability this upcoming season.

Gustafsson got a regular taste of NHL time last year, but he was limited to six assists in 46 contests while averaging 10:06 of ice time per game. Neither physical nor a proven scorer, it's tough to be optimistic even though he's still just 23 years old. At best, Gustafsson seems destined for a bottom-six role, though he's a natural center, which has become a position of uncertainty -- if not outright weakness -- for the 2023-24 Jets. With just seven points in 74 career outings, most fantasy managers can safely leave him on the draft board.

Gustafsson had one goal in 22 games in 2019-20, his first year in NHL. He was mostly an injury replacement for Bryan Little, but lost the role by early December. Gustafsson also had seven points in 13 outings with AHL Manitoba. The second-round pick from 2018 doesn't have a notorious scoring record back in his native Sweden -- it's most likely he ends up as a defensive-minded forward when he becomes an NHL regular. The Jets are deep enough down the middle to send Gustafsson to the minors for more experience in 2020-21, so there's no reason for fantasy managers to roster him early in the year.
