Heading to San Jose
Nurse was acquired by San Jose from Edmonton on Wednesday in exchange for Shakir Mukhamadullin and Zack Sharp.
ANALYSIS
Edmonton wanted to get out from under Nurse's $9.25 million cap hit through 2029-30, but that doesn't mean the 31-year-old lacks value. Far from it, Nurse is a good top-four defenseman who plays a physical game while also chipping in offensively. He had seven goals, 24 points, 104 PIM, 137 hits and 167 blocks in 82 regular-season appearances with Edmonton in 2025-26. Nurse should get big minutes and provide veteran leadership to a young Sharks club that is on the rise.

Nurse will never be a headline-grabbing defenseman in fantasy, but he offers a rare mix of all-around production while playing on a contending team, and that makes him a stable choice. In 2024-25, he posted 33 points, 188 shots on net, 72 PIM, 161 hits and 136 blocked shots over 76 regular-season appearances. He's twice reached the 40-point mark, and that's good production on its own, but his physical play makes him a reliable option in a wide range of formats. Nurse is a low-end No. 2 defenseman in fantasy, and he's good for a mid-to-late-round pick in all formats.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Expanding options
Nurse is reportedly willing to add to the teams he'd accept a trade to from Edmonton, per Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet on Wednesday.
ANALYSIS
It seems Nurse wasn't able to secure a move to his original set of teams, but he is willing to expand his options further. According to Friedman, the Sharks are a team to watch as a landing spot for the veteran blueliner, even though San Jose already signed Jacob Trouba on Wednesday.
