2025 Fantasy Outlook
It was a pivotal year for Tarasov's NHL future, and he didn't rise to the challenge in 2024-25. The 26-year-old netminder went 7-10-2 with a 3.55 GAA and an .880 save percentage over 20 games. The numbers were just one part of the story -- Tarasov also lost opportunities to Jet Greaves at times throughout 2024-25, and Greaves' surge late in the season could leave a lasting impression. All this led to the Jackets' decision to trade Tarasov away to the Panthers this offseason. The youngster is a restricted free agent this summer, so he'll still need a new contract before he can serve as the No. 2 option behind Sergei Bobrovsky. Read Past Outlooks
Sharp in win Sunday
Tarasov stopped 27 of 28 shots in Sunday's 2-1 win over the Avalanche.
ANALYSIS
Tarasov had virtually no margin for error most of the game, and he was able to limit the damage to an Artturi Lehkonen tally in the first period. The 26-year-old Tarasov had given up eight goals on 60 shots while going 0-1-1 over his previous two outings. He's had some uneven results in the backup role this season, but he's at a 5-6-2 record with a 2.81 GAA and a .904 save percentage through 14 appearances. Sergei Bobrovsky will likely be back between the pipes for Tuesday's game versus the Maple Leafs, which kicks off a six-game road trip for the Panthers.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2024
2023
Tarasov started 2023-24 slowly, but between Feb. 21 and March 19, he registered an excellent .934 save percentage and a 2.30 GAA in nine games. He performed well despite the ongoing drama in the room and defense with more holes than Swiss cheese. Tarasov has shown he deserves the starter's role, and he could earn that position due to Elvis Merzlikins' deteriorating play. The 25-year-old Tarasov must stay healthy, but that's a refrain heard from many nets in the NHL. At a minimum, he will be the strong side of a platoon and deliver slightly above-average netminding, but issues with consistency and the team in front of him could drag down his fantasy appeal

ANALYSIS
Tarasov would be making just his third appearance of the season, having gone 0-2-0 with a 3.08 GAA in his previous two tilts. Sitting behind a workhorse No. 1 like Sergei Bobrovsky, the 26-year-old Tarasov shouldn't be expected to see a ton of work this year, making him a low-end fantasy target at best.
