2025 Fantasy Outlook
DeSmith is what every strong team needs -- a reliable backup netminder who can step up in a pinch when the starter is hurt or needs rest. He did just that behind Jake Oettinger in his first year in Dallas, and DeSmith recorded a 14-8-2 record with a 2.59 GAA and a .915 save percentage over 27 appearances. He's under contract for this year and next at an affordable $1 million cap hit. DeSmith is not a must-have goalie in fantasy given his role and workload, but he's a fine option in deeper formats and for those managers who prefer to stream netminders in favorable matchups. Excellent against Los Angeles
DeSmith stopped 27 of 28 shots in Monday's 4-1 win over the Kings.
ANALYSIS
DeSmith returned to the Stars' crease after sitting out the past two games in favor of Jake Oettinger, and he delivered a strong performance. The 34-year-old veteran has been putting up outstanding numbers this season, and this was his eighth straight outing with a save percentage of .900 or higher. Over that eight-game stretch, DeSmith has gone 6-0-2 with a .944 save percentage and a 1.61 GAA.

DeSmith is a sturdy and unspectacular backup with a career 2.81 GAA and .909 save percentage in 165 games played between Pittsburgh and Vancouver. The Stars gave him a three-year, $3 million deal in the offseason to play behind young stud Jake Oettinger. They'd be thrilled if he could play 25-27 games each season, so Oettinger can be a bit fresher come the postseason. DeSmith is a solid daily play in the strong Dallas system, and he and Oettinger will form one of the strongest duos in the NHL. That especially matters in those leagues where team goaltending counts.
