Carson Soucy

Carson Soucy

31-Year-Old DefensemanD
New York Islanders
2025 Fantasy Outlook
Soucy had four goals, 13 points, 46 PIM, 81 shots, 115 hits and 106 blocks across 75 regular-season appearances between the Canucks and Rangers in 2024-25. He established a new personal best in blocks -- his previous career high was 96 in 2022-23 -- but it was otherwise a normal season for him. Soucy is a third-pairing blueliner who usually doesn’t get power-play minutes and provides limited value offensively. At the age of 31, that’s unlikely to change, so while he should give you over 100 hits and 80 blocks if he stays healthy and in the lineup, he’ll probably finish 2025-26 below the 20-point mark. Dealt to divisional rival
DNew York Islanders
January 26, 2026
Soucy was traded to the Islanders from the Rangers on Monday in exchange for a 2026 third-round pick, per PuckPedia.
ANALYSIS
Vince Z. Mercogliano of The Athletic reported earlier Monday that this trade was in the works, which resulted in Soucy being sidelined for the Rangers' game against the Bruins. Soucy will see his former team in short order, as the Islanders and Rangers will play in a home-and-home set Wednesday and Thursday. The 31-year-old defenseman will likely work in a third-pairing role when he's in the lineup for his new squad, but he also could serve as a periodic healthy scratch, especially if the Islanders choose to keep Isaiah George with the big club when Ryan Pulock returns from an upper-body injury.

Soucy missed a couple of big chunks during the 2023-24 regular season, as he suffered a lower-body injury in November that kept him out of action for 23 games, and then he missed another 17 games when he injured his hand versus Toronto on Jan. 20. Soucy had two goals and six points in 40 regular-season outings with Vancouver and is expected to get second-unit minutes on the blue line this season. Look for Soucy to help out in hits and blocked shots, but don't expect more than 15-20 points, even if he remains healthy all season.
A physical defenseman, Soucy saw his offense predictably regress in 2022-23, with three goals and 16 points in 78 games a year after a 10-goal, 21-point campaign. The 29-year-old was allowed to walk by the Kraken, and he ended up signing with the Canucks to bolster what's been a very shoddy defense corps in recent years. Soucy will probably max out at around 20 points with plenty of hits and PIM, so he's a low-end option in most fantasy formats.
Nabbed by the Kraken from Minnesota in the expansion draft, Soucy was in and out of the Seattle lineup throughout its maiden voyage. He played in 64 games, posting career-best marks in goals (10), points (21), shots on goal (97), hits (118) and blocks (73). Soucy saw a bit of power-play time late in the year, which would seem to be the only way he has a chance of producing any fantasy value whatsoever in the 2022-23 campaign. The 28-year-old will probably be a regular for Seattle this coming year, but you can do better in your fantasy draft.
Soucy remained solid in a limited role for the Wild last year, picking up one goal and 16 assists in 50 games while averaging 15:17 of ice time per game. The 27-year-old defenseman is far from a standout in any one area, and he's not even guaranteed a regular role in Seattle after the Kraken loaded up on defensemen in the Expansion Draft. The Alberta native isn't likely to see more than third-pairing work with Adam Larsson and Jamie Oleksiak ahead of him on the depth chart. Soucy will need to fend off Cale Fleury, Connor Carrick and Will Borgen in training camp -- he should be able to do it, but no one should be looking for more than 20 points and modest physical production from Soucy in 2021-22.
Soucy became a regular in the Minnesota lineup in 2019-20, registering 14 points, 69 hits and 50 blocked shots in 55 appearances. While the 26-year-old defenseman doesn't excel at any one thing, his overall solid game will likely keep him in the lineup most nights. Soucy could take a step forward and play at a 20-to-25 point pace in 2020-21, but he'll likely be confined to a bottom-pairing role as Ryan Suter and Jonas Brodin are ahead of him on the left side of the blue line. Fantasy managers in deeper formats with standard scoring may be interested in using a late-round pick on Soucy given his upside, but a big step forward shouldn't be expected.
The 24-year-old saw his first brief taste of NHL action last year, suiting up for three regular-season games with the Wild and taking a regular shift in a first-round loss to the Jets after managing 15 points in 67 games for AHL Iowa. At 6-foot-5, Soucy profiles as a big, physical stay-at-home defenseman, something the Minnesota blue line could certainly use, and unlike some players his size, skating and mobility don't appear to be issues for the Minnesota-Duluth product. His offensive upside is unproven, but on a roster with Mathew Dumba, Ryan Suter and Jared Spurgeon, Soucy won't be called upon to supply many points. Look for him to fight for a bottom-pairing spot in training camp.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Being traded away
DNew York Rangers
January 26, 2026
Soucy is expected to be traded by the Rangers to the Islanders on Monday, Vince Z. Mercogliano of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Soucy probably won't command a huge return, considering he has just three assists in his last 22 outings without finding the back of the net. Still, the 31-year-old blueliner is in the final season of a three-year deal he signed with the Canucks back in July of 2023. Soucy should be a regular in the lineup as a shutdown defender with his new club.
