2025 Fantasy Outlook
Jones went through a period where he managed to stay primarily on NHL rosters, peaking in 2022-23 with Chicago when he had four goals, 16 points and 40 PIM across 73 appearances. However, he suited up in just 31 regular-season outings between the Avalanche and Kings across the past two seasons. He was far busier with AHL Ontario (44 appearances) than he was with Los Angeles (six outings) during the 2024-25 regular season. Now with Pittsburgh after inking a two-year deal over the summer, the 28-year-old will be competing for a bottom-four spot on the Penguins’ Opening Night roster. However, it’s more likely that he’ll start the campaign in the minors and remain there unless injuries to Pittsburgh’s blue line open a spot for him. Read Past Outlooks
Moves to IR
Jones (shoulder) has been placed on injured reserve by the Penguins, Seth Rorabaugh of Tribune-Review Sports reports Sunday.
ANALYSIS
The move is just a formality after the Penguins announced that Jones would miss the entire season due to shoulder surgery Friday. The 28-year-old's season officially comes to a close with one point in seven games at the NHL level.

Jones appeared in a career-high 73 games a year ago in what would be his final campaign with the Blackhawks, managing four goals, 16 points and a minus-19 rating. Jones was a reasonable secondary source of hits (116) and blocked shots (118), but there simply wasn't enough production elsewhere for him to be worthy of any fantasy consideration. The 26-year-old inked a one-year, $775,000 deal with the Hurricanes this past summer. Jones isn't a lock to be a regular for one of the league's better teams.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Likely to be scratched
Jones is expected to be a healthy scratch against Buffalo on Wednesday but could play if Josh Manson can't due to an undisclosed injury, Ryan Boulding of NHL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Jones has been watching from the press box for each of the Avs' last three contests and may have to continue doing so Wednesday. Considering the blueliner has just two points in 12 outings this season, he figures to remain a fringe lineup player.
