Re-signs with club
Malenstyn agreed to terms on a six-year, $17.5 million contract with Buffalo on Monday, Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports.
ANALYSIS
Malenstyn registered a career-high seven goals in 2025-26, but he was limited to just 14 points in 81 regular-season games, failing to reach the 20-point threshold for the second straight year. While the Sabres would certainly take some offensive contributions from the 28-year-old forward, his real value for the team and fantasy managers is his physicality, having racked up 282 hits last year, fifth-most in the NHL.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
Malenstyn is a fourth-line forward who plays with a physical edge. The 27-year-old finished 2024-25 with four goals, 10 points, 29 PIM, 67 shots, 191 hits and 63 blocks across 76 outings with Buffalo. As long as Malenstyn plays regularly again this campaign, he should get over 175 hits again, and it wouldn’t be shocking if he ends up reaching 200. Just don’t expect him to help you too much offensively. He did record 21 points with Washington in 2023-24, but Malenstyn had a bigger role with the Capitals -- he averaged 14:15 of ice time per game that campaign -- than he’s expected to receive in Buffalo.
