Kuzmenko signed a one-year, $5 million contract with Pittsburgh on Wednesday, Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports.
ANALYSIS
Kuzmenko's deal is pretty much the Kyle Dubas standard at this point -- a one-year deal that won't impact the team long term and could have value at the trade deadline. The 30-year-old winger logged 52 regular-season games with the Kings last year, producing 13 goals, including eight with the man advantage. He could find himself paired up with fellow Russian Evgeni Malkin on the second line, though Kuzmenko's hold on that potential spot could be tenuous at best.

2022
Kuzmenko can be a productive top-six forward, but he’s not a reliable one. A regression from his 39-goal and 74-point regular season in 2022-23 was always predictable given his absurd 27.3 shooting percentage, but the fact that he failed to reach even the 50-point mark in either of the last two seasons while bouncing between four different teams is surprising. Still, he seemed to find his way when he was acquired by Los Angeles during the 2024-25 campaign, recording five goals and 17 points over 22 regular-season outings with the Kings after supplying six goals and 20 points across 44 appearances between Philadelphia and Calgary earlier in the campaign. It was enough for Los Angeles to give him a one-year, $4.3 million contract for 2025-26. That contract might work out with Kuzmenko rebounding back above the 50-point mark, but he’s a high-risk bet.
After racking up 74 points in 81 regular-season contests as a rookie, Kuzmenko was hampered by a sophomore slump with just 46 points in 72 outings with the Canucks and Flames last year. If the elite skating winger can return to being a 70-point producer, he won't be long for a third-line role and figures to challenge Anthony Mantha and Blake Coleman for more minutes. Even if the 28-year-old Kuzmenko does start the 2024-25 campaign in a middle-six capacity, he should still get plenty of opportunities with the man advantage - possibly even suiting up with the No. 1 unit. Unfortunately for fantasy managers, Kuzmenko's assignment could be a continuously changing role throughout the season.
Kuzmenko's first NHL campaign was a rousing success with a major caveat. He produced 39 goals and 35 assists, but he also shot 27.3 percent for the year, a mark that even the most elite of snipers can't sustain for long periods. He'll have every chance to replicate his success in 2023-24, but few players have redder flags for regression than the 27-year-old. The good news is that Kuzmenko's shot is still his best asset, and he has a legitimate shot at exceeding the 60-point milestone this season. Even still, fantasy managers should be cautioned against drafting him as a top-50 option. He's got virtually no physicality, so he'll have to keep his offense up to maintain his value.
The most highly-sought-after undrafted player in this year's cycle, Kuzmenko signed a one-year, $950K deal with Vancouver in June. He recently completed his seventh and most effective KHL season, posting 20 goals and 53 points for 45 games for SKA St. Petersburg. The scouting report on Kuzmenko is that he has great hands and is excellent on the power play, with his main drawback being a lack of breakaway speed. Expect the Canucks to give him a significant role from the start, making him an intriguing late-round fantasy pick in all formats. Kuzmenko will again be eligible for unrestricted free agency in the summer of 2023.

LWLos Angeles Kings
April 23, 2026
Kuzmenko might make his 2026 postseason debut in Game 3 against Colorado on Thursday, per Peter Baugh of The Athletic.
ANALYSIS
Kuzmenko was a healthy scratch for the Kings' opening two playoff games this year. He was dealing with a knee injury that cost him the Kings' final 25 games of the regular season, but he was activated off injured reserve before Game 1 of the first-round series, so the decision to exclude him from Los Angeles' playoff tilts thus far has presumably been at head coach D.J. Smith's discretion. Kuzmenko had 13 goals and 25 points in 52 regular-season outings in 2025-26, so he does bring something to the table offensively. Mathieu Joseph might be a healthy scratch to accommodate Kuzmenko's entry into the lineup.
