2026 Fantasy Outlook
Protas is arguably the most talented player without a regular power-play role. The forward remained productive in 2025-26 with 52 points (25 goals, 27 assists) and a plus-20 rating over 76 outings. That's down from his 30-goal, 36-assist breakout from the same number of contests in 2024-25. The good thing about Protas is stability -- his defensive play guarantees he'll be a regular in the Capitals' top six. The last two years have established him as a 25-goal, 50-point player. There's certainly potential for more offense, particularly if he gains power-play time. However, he still shot 15.7 percent last year, indicating he prefers to pick his spots rather than pump pucks on net. He won't add much in non-scoring areas, but he should be a threat for 60 points if the Capitals can find the middle ground between their last two years. Read Past Outlooks
Picks up pair of points
Protas scored a goal on two shots and added an assist in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Penguins.
ANALYSIS
Protas opened the scoring at 1:39 of the second period and also assisted on a Tom Wilson goal later in that frame. The 25-year-old Prtoas has racked up five points and nine shots on net over his last four games since he returned from an upper-body injury. Protas is up to 25 goals, 52 points, 156 shots on net, 41 blocked shots, 32 hits and a plus-20 rating over 74 appearances. While he hasn't matched last year's 66-point breakout regular season, he's still been a quality fantasy option in a middle-six role.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2025
2024
After posting six tallies and 23 assists in 78 games during the 2023-24 campaign, Protas broke out in a big way in 2024-25, compiling 30 goals and 66 points in 76 regular-season appearances. The 24-year-old forward was successful in Washington’s top-six forward group, meshing with Alex Ovechkin, Tom Wilson, Dylan Strome and Pierre-Luc Dubois. Protas led the Capitals with 60 even-strength points while ranking third on the team in points per game (0.87) and tying for first on the club with five shorthanded points. He didn’t log much ice time in power-play situations, and his 21.1 shooting percentage is slightly concerning, but he should remain in the 65-point range in 2025-26 if he maintains a spot on one of the top two lines.
