As a left-handed blueliner, Alexeyev at least has a chance to secure a spot on the Opening Night roster after signing with Pittsburgh this offseason. Still, it's a pretty crowded group of blueliners that also includes up-and-coming prospects like Owen Pickering and Harrison Brunicke -- guys who are likely to get more leash than Alexeyev since they were drafted by the Penguins. Still, the 25-year-old Alexeyev should be given the opportunity to earn a spot in training camp, which would afford him the opportunity to play in more than the eight regular-season games he did last year with the Capitals.
