2025 Fantasy Outlook
Aside from a historic one-goal, one-assist performance in a Jan. 17 win over the Sabres, Nedeljkovic didn't do anything particularly special in 2024-25. His 14-15-5 record, along with a 3.12 GAA and a .894 save percentage, were slightly worse numbers than his 2023-24 campaign (2.97 GAA, .902 save percentage). He was able to take over as the Penguins' starter during the time Tristan Jarry spent rediscovering his game in the AHL from January to March, but Jarry retook the starting role after the trade deadline. With Nedeljkovic shipped off to San Jose in the offseason, he is still unlikely to secure significant minutes behind Yaroslav Askarov, who figures to be the No. 1 option for the Sharks. Nedeljkovic started 2023-24 as the No. 2 to Tristan Jarry, but seized the starter's reins in late March and never let them go. Ned started the Pens' last 13 games, and the team went 8-1-3 to come within three points of the playoffs. To be fair, Nedeljkovic wasn't spectacular through that span - he made timely saves and gave his team confidence, but he didn't steal games and he was pulled twice in those 13. Ned's GSAx (goals saved above average) - the measure of the goalie's individual impact on the game - was barely above zero on the season. Jarry is the Pens' $5-plus million man who is in year two of a five-year deal, so he'll be given every chance to be the top dog. Nedeljkovic is best suited as a 1B type or a 30-start backup whose ceiling is league average.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
Pushing for timeshare?
Nedeljkovic may start the Sharks' season opener Thursday versus the Golden Knights and could get approximately half of the team's starts, Curtis Pashelka of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
ANALYSIS
Nedeljkovic was presumably acquired from the Penguins during the offseason to be a veteran backup for Yaroslav Askarov. However, with Askarov being a young goalie, it makes sense that he might share the crease early in the year. Nedeljkovic's numbers will likely be poor behind a shaky defense, but he should be able to exceed 30 appearances this year, even if Askarov ultimately runs away with the No. 1 job.
