2026 Fantasy Outlook
Montgomery proved again why he is one of the best putters on the PGA Tour, as he ranked second in SG: Putting, third in putts per GIR and first in one-putt percentage. That said, 171st in SG: Off-the-Tee and 148th in SG: Approach is just not going to get the job done. Montgomery was only 138th in the FedExCup Fall standings, so it's unclear how much he will be able to play on the PGA Tour in 2026. He might be better off trying to regain full status through the Korn Ferry Tour. Read Past Outlooks

2023
Montgomery stormed onto the season in the fall of 2022 but hasn't been able to find that form consistently since with 2024 being a year to forget with only three top-25s and zero top-10s. He finished 138th in the FedExCup standings and will only have conditional status in 2025. Montgomery's strength is his short game which is one of the best on Tour which speaks volumes to his ball striking issues. He hit less than half of the fairways while averaging less than 290 yards off the tee. Unless he can improve drastically with his driving play, Montgomery's struggles are bound to continue.
Montgomery entered this past season, his rookie season, with a lot of hype and he did not disappoint, at least early in the season. Montgomery recorded top-15s in nine of his first 10 starts on the PGA Tour this past season and it looked like the sky was the limit, but he hit a wall in late-January and never really recovered. Though he made 22 more starts after his hot start, it wasn't until the fall portion of the season that he was able to again crack the top-15. The question is, is Montgomery legit or is he going to be a guy who just plays well against lesser competition? It's too early to give up on Montgomery and while he's not a lock to perform better this season, he does provide more upside than most that are ranked in the same area.
Montgomery finished fifth on the 2022 Korn Ferry Tour Regular Season Eligibility Points List with nine total top-10s in just 17 events played, highlighted by runner-up finishes at the AdventHealth Championship and the Price Cutter Charity Championship. He paced the KFT in birdie average with 4.88 tweeters per round and he also ranked first in actual scoring average (68.36). Montgomery tied for 11th at the PGA Tour's Farmers Insurance Open in late January when he gained 5.4 strokes with the flat stick. He eventually went on to make his second career U.S. Open appearance in June after qualifying via sectionals.
