2026 Fantasy Outlook
Mickelson entered 2025 off the cusp of a disappointing 2024 campaign in which he had just one top-10 finish in LIV Golf (T6 in Jeddah) and failed to accrue points in 10 of 13 tournaments in the breakaway league. The 2025 season was a much better season for the crafty lefty, who finished in the top 6 in three LIV Golf tournaments (including a solo third in Hong Kong and T4 finish in Virginia). However, Mickelson wasn’t able to carry that form into the majors and made the cut only at The Open Championship (T56). Mickelson will no longer be exempt for the U.S. Open starting in 2026, but he will be in the field for the other three majors. You can never count the six-time major champion out of it, as evidenced by his T2 finish at The Masters in 2023. Read Past Outlooks
Will miss all four majors in 2026
Mickelson will not play in next month's Open Championship at Royal Birkdale, Joel Beall of Golf Digest reports.
ANALYSIS
Earlier this month Mickelson was removed as a member from his hometown golf club after a female employee accused him of making nonconsensual, inappropriate contact with her before a round of golf. Mickelson's team has denied the allegations and say that he is continuing to attend to a family health matter. Whatever the case, Mickelson will miss all four major championships in a season for the first time in his professional career. It will be the first time he misses The Open Championship since 2009. Mickelson has played competitively just once in 2026 and that was the LIV Golf event in South Africa in March. It's unclear when we might see the 56-year-old again amid all the personal issues going on.

Mickelson was looking to build off an up-and-down 2023 season, during which he finished tied with Brooks Koepka at the Masters behind Jon Rahm, but otherwise only managed to crack the top-10 once in the LIV Golf League (Bedminster) and finished 39th in the individual standings. Mickelson’s 2024 season didn’t fare much better, as he finished T30 or worse in 10 of 13 LIV Golf events and made the cut in two of four majors (T43 and T60 at the Masters and the Open, respectively). He was close to joining fellow team captain Bubba Watson in being relegated from the LIV Golf league, but Mickelson’s T6 finish in Jeddah was enough for him to finish 46th in the individual season standings. Mickelson will be in the field for all four majors this year and will lead his HyFlyers GC squad currently consisting of Brendan Steele, Cameron Tringale and Andy Ogletree.
