James Hahn

Hahn played great to start the season with three consecutive top-10s but struggled mightily since the West coast swing ended, having to miss a couple months with a rib injury while missing seven cuts in a row after returning. A two-time winner on tour, Hahn is capable of putting together a decent season if he's fully healthy but his best days are likely behind him at 39-years-old. He's a prime candidate to be on the playoff bubble this season.

Hahn picked-up his first PGA Tour win in 2015 and followed that up with another victory in 2016. His numbers since that second win have declined each season however. The good news is, his price tag has fallen to a point where he has a lot of value in a salary cap league ... if he can find his form from a few years ago. Haan is pretty good in all phases of his game, but he's not great in any one area. That's fine if everything remains status quo, but if any part of his game drops off, like his putting last year, then his numbers are going to drop. The good news is, if Haan can simply get a little better on the green, while maintaining his ball-striking and short game, then he's due to bounce back.

It took a couple years for Hahn to find his footing on the PGA Tour, but over the past three seasons, he's locked himself into the $1.8-2.3 million range. Last season was actually his worst among the past three seasons, but it doesn't appear to be a regression as much as just a variation of where he's normally going to be. With that in mind, Hahn provides plenty of value in draft leagues, but he'll rarely be a good salary cap option because his earnings don't fluctuate enough.

Haan did just enough to retain his card as a rookie and a sophomore on the PGA Tour, but in years three and four, he's really upped his game. Haan has picked-up a victory in each of the past two seasons and he's also topped the $2 million mark in each as well. Haan could level out at this mark, or he could continue his ascent. Even if he continues to improve, it will be hard to pull the trigger on him in a salary cap leagues though because his number is pretty high for a guy who's never sniffed $3 million. As such, he's not a great salary cap pick this year, but he should provide value in draft leagues, in the fourth or fifth round.

Goal number one for any PGA Tour rookie is to retain his card for the following season, which Hahn did in 2013. However, once you hit goal number one, the next goal would be to improve upon what you did in your rookie season. That is something Hahn was unable to accomplish in his second season on the PGA Tour. That's not to say that he's headed the wrong way, but it would have been nice to see some improvement from year one to year two. With that said, Hahn looks to have some potential, so perhaps last year's set back was merely an adjustment period to life on the PGA Tour. With that in mind, Hahn should get a look in salary cap leagues this year. In draft leagues he should find a spot in the later rounds.

Hahn played very well out of the gate during his rookie season last year, but for some reason, he hit the wall in early March and never recovered. Luckily, Hahn played well enough during the first two months that his card was all but secured for the 2014 season. He'll have to find his form again and fast if he's to keep his card for next year. Hahn should play well enough to keep his playing privileges in 2015, but right now it looks like his upside isn't all that high.

Viewers of Golf Channel’s “Golf’s Longest Day,” which covered U.S. Open Sectional Qualifying earlier in 2012, might remember Hahn, who successfully qualified for the U.S. Open at Olympic Club. He missed the cut there, but that should not dampen one’s appreciation of an impressive summer on the Web.com Tour for the 31-year old, who in a two month stretch from May to July picked up a win, a second, a tie for seventh and a T12. He also finished strong, nabbing a second-place finish at the Web.com Tour Championship to secure his fifth-place finish on the money list and his ticket to the PGA TOUR. Hahn is appears destined for success on the PGA TOUR this season.
