2026 Fantasy Outlook
It was another disappointing season for Stenson, who accumulated points in just three of 13 LIV Golf tournaments. He was in the final spot in the individual standings that would have kept him safe from relegation heading into the final LIV Golf tournament in Indianapolis, but he finished in T27 and slipped into the Drop Zone, which means he won’t be a part of the LIV Golf league in 2026 unless he gets back in through the Promotional event, or is invited to return by Majesticks GC or another team. Stenson’s lone major appearance in 2025 was at The Open (T45), and given he won that tournament in 2016, that will likely be the only major he will play in 2026. Read Past Outlooks
MC at The Open following Friday 74
Stenson missed the cut at The Open Championship by two strokes after posing a four-over 74 in the second round.
ANALYSIS
Stenson -- who won The Open in 2016 -- turned back the clock with a two-under 68 opening round, when he carded three birdies over the last four holes. He couldn't replicate that success in the second round, which included three-straight bogeys from holes four to six. He was one stroke away from making the one-over cut line with three holes to play but was unable to get the birdie he needed to qualify for the weekend. Stenson was incredibly accurate off the tee, but his issues Friday came in his approach play (minus-1.78 strokes) and with his putter (minus-2.33 strokes). Per Ryan Herrington of Golf Digest, Stenson -- who was relegated from LIV Golf at the end of the 2025 season -- intends to return to PGA Tour sanctioned events in August, when eligible. Stenson is aiming to play 5-to-7 tournaments on the PGA Tour Champions circuit this year, with the aim of playing in that league more regularly in 2027.

The 2016 Open Champion hasn’t made a lot of inroads since winning the inaugural LIV Golf tournament at Bedminster in 2022. He had a respectable 2023 season in which he finished 25th in the LIV Golf individual season standings, but he managed just two top-10 finishes in 2024 (T8 and T6 in Hong Kong and Chicago, respectively), and he finished 35th in the LIV Golf individual season standings with 26.41 points. Stenson did lead the league in driving accuracy and ranked sixth in GIR, but he was near the bottom of the field in birdies per round, driving distance and putting average. Stenson missed the cut at The Open in July, and he’ll be in the field in 2025 at Royal Portrush thanks to his victory in 2016.
